Chapter 26

ELROY’S POV The trip back home lasted for only ten minutes, turns out that the motel wasn’t too far from home. I slipped my hand into my pocket and made it for the door, when I hear my name the moment I get to the living room. “Elroy” I paused, letting father finish his sentence “Where have you been all day?” he asked, his body clinging onto that tough chair that sat in the corner of the enormous living room. “At a friend’s place” I lied, sighing right after “Is there a problem?” I asked, making a beeline for my room not far up ahead. “Tiffany said you disappeared from her party last night” he gruntled I let out an exasperated sigh because this was one of the conversations I always avoided having. Especially on a good day, the days I get to see Evelyn’s face outside of school. “I really don’t want to talk about it dad” I grunt when I heard the clanking of heels and giggling coming from the side of the living room. “Hey baby” Tiffany called out in a high pitched tone, wrapping her arms around me Her scent of strawberry mix is so strong that it throws me off guard and I quickly shove her aside, anger in my veins. How dare she touch me after that stunt she pulled at the party. She gave my father a disappointed look, almost pouting but I didn’t care. I still hadn’t forgiven her for disappearing without a notice and finding comfort in the arms of another and she commits yet again another blunder that I’m not willing to overlook. “Babe” she cries out. “Don’t you dare call me that!” I ordered, keeping my distance as her blonde hair fell over her shoulder “What was that for?” Father shot me a daunting glare but it didn’t matter. “Mr Vans” she started with a measly tone which confirmed that she was doing a pity act “He shoves me around and hardly cares for me any more” she pouted, giving him the eyes she always used to get out of trouble And it made me sick to the stomach, she needed to leave and now. Before father could speak to reprimand me, I made my way to my room “Elroy!” he called out with a disapproving tone whilst Tiffany stayed beside him, tears trickling down her cheeks. It dawned on me almost immediately that if I let Tiffany stay around the house more than she already does, she would cause a massive scene around Evelyn and I couldn’t have that. So I paused a bit, biding my time to think of a way to get rid of this pest, Tiffany. But lest I forget, the event that happened at the party. “Ask your beloved Tiffany here what had happened at the party yesterday” I blurted out And for a second she paused, looked down at her phone and from the looks of things, she had just re-thought her decision about staying around the house today. “I thought you wished to walk out on me, your father” he grunted, “What happened between the both of you?” he asked casually A grin tugged at the corner of my lip as she now fidgeted, her long nails tapping at the side of her phone. “Come on Tiff” I urged her, calling her by her shortened name with a smile on my face “Tell him what happened or shall i?” I asked Her face went bright red with rage, it definitely wasn’t just her make-up. Father gave a concerning look at the two of us and for once in the longest time, I had actually won this round of blackmail. She didn’t utter a word. “Mr Vans, it’s obvious that Elroy doesn’t want me around” she sobbed, I rolled my eyes at her. “Yeah, I’m infuriated” I turn towards her “Do you want to know why dad?” I asked with anger in my voice. Walking closer to them, my patience running thin “Because you expect me to forgive her after all that she’s done to me” “People make mistakes” he played the mistake and forgiveness card on me. “Yeah like spiking my drink at a party” I cut into his sentence “And also like you’ve ever forgiven any one in your actual life” I scoffed. “He’s lying” she protested, “You roofied me and you want me to pretend that it’s alright? Huh?” I asked with a loud voice Maybe almost too loud because my voice bounced off the living room and I heard a door open. I turned to my father who just sat there in silence instead of speaking up for his son “Won’t you say anything about that?” he averted my eyes as he always did “Then you don’t deserve to give a speech about forgiveness” Then I turned back to the conniving snake “And you don’t deserve my forgiveness” I stated She ran out the front door, as always but this time I didn’t follow her to console her, instead, I wanted her gone. Just as I made my way back to my room, I heard father from behind me, he had finally gotten up from his beloved chair “Elroy Mathew Vans” he spelt out my full name “You dare to walk out on me?” he asked “And poor Tiffany, you dare accuse her and make her cry?” he continued. Yup that’s my dad, never thinking about his own but taking the burden of what happens to outsiders “What if we lose the deal with the Sterlings because of you?” that was his concern, a shitty collaboration. “I don’t care dad! What are you going to do? Hit me the way you tried to hit Chloe?” I asked, my eyes matching the spiteful glare he shot at me when a voice came from the door. “You tried to hit Chloe?” mother asked with tears in her eyes, holding onto the arm of someone else, Evelyn.
