Chapter two

Elena's POV The sound of a heart monitor was so loud in my sleep. I had a strange dream that my car rolled up a cliff. It was absurd. My eyes were still shut but I subconsciously touched my stomach. "You should relax," a man's voice said to me. Huh? Who the hell was that. I blinked my eyes open. Though at first a bit blurry, but they cleared after a few more blinks. I saw a man smiling and looking down at me. I tried to sit up. "I wouldn't do that if I were you." The man said in a rush. Pipes and things were connected to my body and It was then realisation dawned on me. "What's going on? How did get here? Where's my husband?" "Easy now okay? You'll stress your body. The doctor said you needed all the rest you could get." I fixed my gaze on this stranger wondering who he was to give me others. He had in a dress shirt and some casual jeans. As he moved to adjust my blankets, his biceps flexed in his shirt which hugged him too tightly. He looked at me once again with another cute smile that was accompanied with a sparkle in his hazel coloured eyes. He had a dirty blonde hair and flipped it back from time to time. He looked so good to be true. He had a gaunt face, but that even made him look more handsome. I flushed realising I had been staring for too long and turned my face away. "Where am I?" I managed to ask. I didn't notice before but my voice was sounded croaked. I cleared my throat with a cough. He must have thought I was having an issue or something, because he started touching my forehead. "Are you alright?" His face was scrunched up in concern. It was obvious he didn't know what to do in a medical crisis. "Yeah I'm fine." I reassured him. His smile returned. "You're in my house," he replied. "I managed to get you safe from the sea after seeing you fall off with your car." He paused, seeming unsure about what he was going to say. "I'm sorry. You had miscarriage." He looked sad but I looked on at him disbelieve. Was he being serious right now? He must have been saying some comforting words but I was in my own zone right now. This couldn't be happening! It was just a long nightmare I needed to wake up from. When I came to myself, he was saying something about a d**g. "Wait What? What are you saying?" I replied. "You couldn't summon your wolf because of the drugs in your system." "What d**g? I took no d**g. I only had breakfast before heading out," I said, quite surprised that he was talking about drugs. "Did you notice anything strange as you drove?" "No, I didn't… Uhm, yes… Yes. I remember now," I stuttered, still struggling a bit to recollect all that happened as I was still a bit lightheaded. "I felt so weak and I couldn't explain why, but I felt it was because I ate too much." He was silent but his expression said a lot. The narrowing of his eyes and the deep breath he took gave me a feeling that he had something else to say. "I need to get back to my family. Please, help me," I begged. "I'm Andre. Friends call me Dre," he said, stretching forth his hand for a handshake. "I'm Elena. But I go by El," I smiled weakly, as I reached out to take his hand. I had begun to feel stronger. I was strong enough to sit up. "I'll help you contact your family," he said. " I promise." He was a stranger and I didn't know what his intentions were. I just hoped they weren't bad because, at that point, I couldn't defend myself if I tried. He helped me up and led me to the sitting room which was so large. I had to blink twice to be sure that I wasn't seeing double. The room was massive, almost twice the size of that of my husband. They had to be massively wealthy. Everything about the house pointed to that. He grabbed the remote at the large centre table and sat on one of the side sofas. I walked across to the longest sofa, just opposite the one he sat on, and sat. There were four big bowls of fruits on the centre table and he motioned to me to pick any fruit of my choice. I took an apple, and without even wondering if it was poisoned, I brought it close to my mouth and had a bite. It was delicious. I tried to contact my husband by activating the mind link once again, all to no avail. The more I tried, the more I failed. I couldn't tell what prevented me from being able to reach him. "Don't you think he might have cut off the contact himself? I mean, mind links are always effective unless one party decides to block off any form of contact. He…" "You have no right to say that. You don't know him like I do!" I screamed. I couldn't let him finish. I wasn't going to sit there and watch him say such things about my husband. Leo loved me; he loved me so much. He had fought for me against all odds to ensure that I was his wife. He challenged his mother on multiple occasions for my sake. How then could he have put off the mind link? It wasn't like we had an issue too. He just got my gifts ready and helped me take them into the car. It was not possible. "I'm sorry I screamed," I apologised to Andre. "My husband and I love each other. He couldn't have done something like that." "Okay, no problem," he said, first shrugging and then raising both hands to indicate that he wasn't going to argue anymore. He laid back on the sofa and turned on the TV. I looked at the screen and was greatly surprised. I saw Leo, Claudia his mother and Daisy being interviewed by a reporter. "That's him," I said to Andre, who suddenly sat up. "I really can't believe that my wife is gone," Leo was saying, with tears in his eyes. "She had a car accident and fell into the sea. We had no idea that her car was bad. She checked it thoroughly the night before but it was alright. I can't believe she's gone." Daisy passed him a towel to wipe his tears she even patted his thigh and rubbed his back. "We'll be holding a funeral for her, soon, to pay our respects one last time. Leo may be gone but she'll live with us in our hearts forever…" I was shocked. I couldn't listen to any more of that nonsense! How could he assume that I was dead? What made him give me up that easily? Besides, if he was fine, why on earth was he not responding to my calls? Could it be that Andre was right? I had a lot of questions in my head and no answers to any of them. I looked up at Andre who stared at me with a very sad expression. Oh no! It couldn't be!
