Chapter 6

Cody’s POV What good is being part incubus if I can’t use my abilities with my own mate? I growled as I went to throw some posh, pretentious painting of Bryce’s. As soon as it left my hand, Bryce zoomed into the room and caught it. I rolled my eyes, “what the f**k, man?” Bryce stomped towards me, “don’t what the f**k me. What the hell do you think you were doing with her?” “I was trying to get to know our mate on a deeply personal level,” I told him. Bryce shoved me backwards, “you used your abilities on her.” “I just wanted to make her dream come true. If you’d seen what she dreamt about me, you’d go crazy also,” I tried to explain. “I bet you had something to do with influencing her dream, as well. You’re an asshole,” he poked me in my chest, making my anger rise. “I’m part incubus! What do you expect from me?!” I roared as I punched through one of his precious paintings. Bryce didn’t understand these urges, though we had the same mother, the three of us had different fathers. It was common for a female to have multiple mates, and we knew that there was a chance we would share one. Our mother, Anya, preferred traveling the world with her mates while the three of us liked being in one place. However, if Marley wanted, I would take her anywhere she wanted to go. “Stop taking your rage out on my art!” Bryce shoved me backwards and I landed on the desk with a loud crash. Papers went flying everywhere and I was peeved that he was blaming me for being myself. “Excuse me,” Marley walked into the room nervously, fidgeting with the hem of her skirt, “is everything okay in here?” Bryce turned to her with a bright smile, “brotherly disagreement, nothing to worry about.” I rolled my eyes at how he turned the charm on when she was around. “Okay, I was wondering where I needed to start cleaning, I’m sure you don’t want me just sitting around,” she said sweetly. “Cleaning?” Bryce asked her. “She’s going to be a live-in maid, brother. I hadn’t had the chance to tell you yet,” I told him. “But we have—oof!” He grunted as I elbowed him in the ribs. “We have Marley here to help us, you know how rowdy men can be. I’m sorry about all the noise,” I apologized to her, and she smiled. “It’s fine, really,” she said to me before asking, “so where do I start?” “You can start tomorrow, just rest today, okay?” I told her. The plan wasn’t really to have her clean, it was to spend more time with her. What better way to do that than to have her live here? “Okay, I need to leave for a bit, I’ll be back in awhile,” she turned on her heel to leave but I was curious what she was going to do. “Where are you headed? Maybe I can give you a ride?” I offered. “I need to go speak with Jeremy,” a dark look came over her face. “Who’s Jeremy?” I asked her. “My boyfriend, we had a misunderstanding earlier,” she said with a sigh. I instantly disliked this Jeremy fellow just for having had my mate before me, “would you like a ride?” “He’ll be upset if I show up with another guy, it’s fine, I’ll just walk,” she insisted as she scurried out of the room. “What does she mean he’ll be upset?” I turned to Bryce and asked. Bryce scoffed, “he’s a piece of s**t, I heard what he did to her earlier today, and I think he throws her around, too. We need to get rid of him.” “What’s a sweet, beautiful woman doing with trash like that?” I asked enraged at the thought of someone hurting my mate. “I don’t know, but I think we should follow and make sure she’s okay,” he said thoughtfully. “I’m in,” Jake appeared out of nowhere and announced. Creepy fucker, though hiding in the shadows and stalking was his forte as well as torture and murder. The usual psychotic stuff. The three of us nodded at each other and stealthily stalked a distance away from Marley so she wouldn’t catch sight of us. Our forms were shadowy and made hiding from public eye much easier. The walk took about thirty minutes when Marley finally reached an apartment building. She knocked on a door and waited a minute before a slimy looking guy answered the door. Marley grinned up at him and he gave her a sleazy smile, “baby, what are you doing here?” “I just wanted to see you, make sure we were okay,” she answered nervously while fidgeting with her hair. He looked her up and down, “you get that morning after pill?” Marley seemed to deflate, “yes.” “Good, good, come inside,” he opened the door further and from here I could see another half dressed woman. Seriously? Marley went inside and he closed the door behind them. “I hate him,” I muttered to my brothers. “Me too,” Bryce spat. “He’s definitely someone we have to get rid of, the only question is should we make it look like an accident?” Jake pondered. “Marley would hate us if she found out,” Bryce pointed out. “That’s a big if, so you’re saying you’re okay with her having a boyfriend?” I asked him. “Not at all, but I think we can at least get her to break up with him, she’ll learn how amazing it is to be around us and not want him anymore,” Bryce answered confidently. “We’ll try it your way first, but if that doesn’t work,” Jake made a slitting motion across his neck. “Agreed,” Bryce said.
