VALERI KNEW IT WAS only a matter of time before Yuri came to collect his prize. His threat to do away with Sophie would eat at his brother like a maggot, eventually spurring him to action. He could picture Yuri roaring into St. Petersburg on his Harley, his motorcycle-riding horde behind him for effect. In some ways, he admired his brother’s freedom, his ability to choose personal gratification over responsibility with little or no remorse, but such philosophy was not Valeri’s nature.
He was a strategist, not a warrior. He would find a different way to retaliate for the attack on Goragavan, but keeping Sophie alive and in his care presented a dilemma. If he didn’t lose her in the ‘negotiations’ with the Minister, he would have to hand her over to Yuri. He found both options
