Chapter 25: Cut and Thrust I didn’t spend the night with Jax, although maybe I should have. There were things to do at my Tudor on Spruce Street, like turn the furnace up since the temperature had dropped, complete a few sheets of paperwork for a house closing, which, per my schedule was to close the following morning. Plus, I wanted to see if I could pull myself away from the man. Distance caused the heart to grow fonder, right? I believed so, willing to test such a theory. I took a taxi home in silence, riding through the snowstorm. No radio. No book on compact disc to listen to and enjoy. No humming. Nothing of the sort. The wipers flicked to and fro, removing snow from the windshield. The wheels on the cabbie’s ride spun once, twice, three times during the short trip. I didn’t talk.
