Postscript Hi, I’m the author of this book, and I hope you liked it. I lived in Alaska as a newspaper reporter and fell in love with the state and its people. I became a Twitter addict after the 2016 election. It was a place I could rage and obsess about politics. And I raged a lot. One day I came across the hashtag #MMIW — Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. I knew some of the statistics about abused women. I covered the issue as a reporter; I researched it further when I created Dace Marshall for this book series. But the treatment of Native Americans, and particularly Native Alaskan women is horrific beyond anything I had seen. And that is part of the problem. The abuse of Indigenous women is so ignored we don’t even have accurate data to actually examine the extent of the problem.
