A Deal Has Been Made

Octavian’s POV: So she had found someone to remarry? Or was she forced? The way she acted towards me confirmed that Edward had already told her what his spies had seen. There was no taking that back. Then again it didn’t help that my new wife had seen her. Did she know of our divorce? Did she know that I had tried to pay her ransom? That I had tried everything to get her back to me? She had seen me with her replacement. She is such a strong person, yet, I knew that she hated to have her ego bruised. She thought of herself as a high class lady who studied all of her life to get into a position such as Empress and now she will be a princess consort, which will then turn into queen some day. I didn’t know why she had turned against me so easily. She was essentially forgetting everything we had. I saw the way she looked at Catherine while she held our son. She was jealous and ashamed of what happened between us. It seemed as though she could not care less for our child, the one she claimed to love so much. I then received a knock at the door. “The Prince has requested a private word with you, emperor.” “Lead me to his office, at once.” I was silently being led to Edwards office, unaware of what was so happen once I entered through this door. I sighed as he stepped aside and awaited for me to open it and let myself in. I would usually knock in these instances, but thought myself better of it. I flung door open, as soon as I stepped it, I slammed it behind me. “You requested my presence.” “Yes, I have.” “Well, speak.” “Jade has asked me if she could say goodbye to her son.” “What?” “Jade wishes to say goodbye to her son. She knows that she cannot come live with you, nor can he come live with us, so she is asking very humbly, to say goodbye to him.” “No,” “If you want her forgiveness, I suggest you let her say goodbye.” “If she marries you, I will never let her say goodbye.” “She is bound to me already.” “What do you mean?” “I love her,” “You cannot love another man’s wife so easily.” “You have brought her nothing but more pain! Just let her see her son!” “No, he is our son, and left him in my care when you abducted her. Which, how did she get over you ripping her apart from her family?” “It doesn’t matter. Just let her say goodbye to him. I will grant you a private conversation with her in return. Saying goodbye, and asking for her forgiveness.” “Forgiveness? She should be asking for mine. Has she forgotten myself so easily?” “She only gave up hope after months of waiting. I tried to talk to her before then, but she just kept asking who I was, what I wanted, why I did what I did, trying to figure my motives out. She always said that you loved her, that you would pay any price for her, that she would forgive you for kissing another and striking her while pregnant, that she would be a better wife. A better wife for you.” He looked at me with cold eyes. He had indeed fallen in love with her. I shook my head at the annoyance. She had been waiting for me, while I had gone on and married another, and her son ripped away from her. No wonder she acted the way the way she did. She was jealous and hurt that I would move on so easily. Yet I hadn’t moved on, she was all I thought about constantly. We were bound together as one, especially on our wedding night, she bore me a son on her first pregnancy. She had done everything right, all except making me promise myself to her. I couldn’t explain it but the more she stressed that she would never forgive me for it, the more I just wanted to do it. I didn’t know if I was genuinely sick, or just a man driven by nature. “You know in order for you to marry her, you can’t sleep around.” “I saw how broken she was when I told her that you did it.” “You what?” “She had a right to know! She talked every day how you would pay the ransom, how much you loved her! How could I not tell her that you were never coming to her side! How you had replaced her! How you made her dead in the eyes of the empire!” “You son of a b****! I tried everything I could!” “No! You didn’t! You left your money in the hands of the clergy and you weren’t able to even pay for your Empress’ safety. How pathetic! Just let her say goodbye, I’ll let you say goodbye to my fiancée and then you will leave my kingdom and never return.” “No,” “You don’t understand what you did to her.” “And you don’t understand why she feels that way in the first place! You started this!” “She would have found out about all those other maids somehow. You slept with a different one each afternoon while you requested her to take a nap for the child in her wombs sake! How can you love someone so deeply and not care for them?” I turned my head in shame, he was right. There was no trying to reason with him. I would think of a different plan later, if I went along with her wishes I could get back in her good graces. The only problem that I would be having would be Edward. “Fine. I will come to her room, you may stand outside the door with me while she says goodbye to the boy. Then I will have my private discussion with her.” “Deal, follow me.” He hurriedly walked down the hall over to mine and Catherine’s room. She had left the baby to cry all alone in the basket while she was looking at herself in the mirror. I knew that she would never care for him the way that Jade had tried. With no time to think at all I grabbed him from the bassinet with Edward as we marched to the opposite side of the castle. He knocked gently on her door, she opened it a sliver before Edward had cleared his throat and very softly told her that she had brought myself and the child. Her eyes lit up as she flung the door open and ran to me with open arms. I had hoped she embraced me but she swiftly took him from my grip and shut the door behind her.
