The First Betrayal

1021 Words
A few months had passed, he had moved me into his chambers not too long ago. He noticed my changing body, my stomach was becoming more round, I was mostly confined to keep a stress free life right now. I was pregnant with his heir, I had to be careful. I walked in the garden, taking in all of the beautiful scenery when I stopped dead in my tracks. A beautiful blonde servant looking girl, flaunting herself at my husband. My hand came to my stomach, I watched them from afar. He seemed pleased by her, leaning in to kiss her, embrace her. Her eyes widened instantly as she saw my stature. His face showed no remorse. Have I been lied to this whole time? I walked away instantly, tearing my eyes away from the pitiful scene. How was I to share a bed with someone who was sharing with someone else? “Hazel, I would like to retire back to the empress chambers. Please move my things accordingly.” “Yes your grace.” “My love, out in the garden for a morning walk?” “Do not speak my love to me your grace.” “Your grace? Have we become so informal jade?” “Thank you for gracing me with your presence, you grace, but I am feeling a bit tired, I shall retire to my room.” “I shall follow, it has been a while since we have napped together.” “No, your grace, my chambers. Now, excuse me.” “Jade stop acting this way.” He gripped my wrist as tightly as he could. “I am not the one who was voluntarily kissing the help Octavian. Warm your bed with anyone but me. From now on we only are husband and wife through paper.” He pulled back to him, before I struggled to pull away. His hand came up to my face, sending me flying down on my stomach. I tried to cover as much as I could but I could tell my stomach was too big for me to protect it. I felt a strong sense of pain, I gripped my stomach tightly. “My...my love...I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to strike you so hard. I shouldn’t have done that...” his hand came down to mine to help me up. I forced his hand away from me, gripping my stomach tighter. “Mary! Mary! Help me to my chambers, call the physician, our heir might be affected.” I felt his eyes roaming my body. Octavian POV: “How is the empress?” I asked the physician carefully. “There is complications. With lots of bed rest the child might stabilize, however, stress and movement are very limited. She will be in bed until the birth of the child.” “How much longer do you think until the heir is fully born?” “She is very small, very malnourished. It should only be around 2 more months before the child arrives.” I slowly entered through the door. She laid there looking peacefully. Why had I gone and chased after that maid? We had made a deal on our wedding night how bad a mistress would be for our image. My father had a mistress and that didn’t end well. I sat by the bed, her bed, she had requested immediately to be moved out of our shared room. She has barely spoken to me, too upset by everything to process it. “Leave,” she took her hand back from mine. “My love, I will not leave.” “I do not want you here your grace. You are nothing but a constant source of stress for me to look at. Your face brings me anger like no other. Your heir is is in my womb, isn’t that what you wanted? Just leave.” The tears streaked down her cheeks. “I will not leave my love.” “Go be with your w***e!” Her scream terrified me. I knew that she was upset, I knew that she blamed me for it, I was at fault. I was a constant source of her misery. “I don’t know why I went after the maid, she was so alluring. We only kissed my love, it was against my better judgment. I have never slept with her.” “You struck me, knowing I was pregnant with your child. I do not trust your words.” I reached my hand out for her swollen stomach. I didn’t know what else to say other than I apologized for it. I felt terrible I had put the risk of losing an heir into the world. “If it shall be a son, I shall stay, if it shall be a daughter, you are to banish us. If I am to lose my child, I reserve the right for banishment, to be left alone.” “My love what nonsense are you thinking?” “You can tell them that I died in child birth and how you are so upset of losing your true love, you can go marry another queeness.” I didn’t know what to say back to her. “No, my love you are to stay at court with me. Who will plan all of the banquets? Who will give me advise?” “Your new wife and your advisor, your grace. Marry just as you did before. Do find love, do go on and be happy. While I am stuck here, practically tied to this bed wondering when my baby will die.” “My love, even if my mistake causes us to lose one child we can still go on and have others” Tears leaked out of her eyes. “There is no moment, no life in here. I believe i will have to give birth to my dead son.” My hand reached out, feeling around for any type of movement. She was right. I had killed our baby.
