The Alpha Turns 18

It's been two hours since I woke up this morning and I see no hope for me to get to sleep again so I decided to prepare early for my 7 am class instead.

As I checked my schedule, something caught my attention. It's the big red circle I drew on my calendar reminding me of the upcoming birthday of my alpha that is my ex.

"Oh no, I don't think I'm ready for this". I kept blabbering the same words while pacing back and forth inside my room.

My anxiety is eating me up. I have not prepared myself yet whether how I should react if the moon goddess did not pick me as the alpha's mate.

If I am fortunate enough, I will just be kicked out of the pack's house but I've always had the worst of luck so I might get banished from our pack.

Feeling fed up with my thoughts, I grabbed my bag and drove myself to school instead.

The halls are still empty when I arrived at school. It is still 6:30 after all, this must be my earliest yet. Confident with the time I still have before my first class started, I grabbed a coffee and headed directly to my secret place.

It's no secret really. It's our old school garden and since the new one opened, not a lot of students would willingly come here because they think it's farther to walk compared to the new one. As for me, I am very willing to walk the extra mile just to have my peace and quiet time.

I thought I heard someone walk towards me but I did not mind checking as I drifted to a fast slumber.

Time check: It's past five in the afternoon already. Mondays consume my energy effortlessly. I even attended my first subject late despite arriving at school early. My nap lasted longer than I expected. Ugh!

I gathered my bag and marched my way out of school. I made a quick visit to my favorite ice cream shop, then headed home immediately.

As I made my way inside the pack's house, I noticed the loud noise that carted to the house's backyard. But, since my head is already craving my pillow, I did not mind checking and hurriedly went upstairs and straight to my bedroom.

I entered my room, did a quick scan, locked the door, and ran for a quick bath. As soon as I got out of the shower, I hurriedly pat my skin dry and dive directly to my bed without any piece of clothing. I like sleeping naked. It's comfortable and refreshing.

My hair was still wet so I positioned my head on the near end of my bed and gathered all my hair above my head to let it hang down the bedside.

Not even a minute had passed and I was already fading into unconsciousness. Forget about dinner, I'll just find something later if I wake up from hunger.

I clenched my fist as I made my way to my office. How could they arrange an advanced birthday party without even telling me? I'm turning 18 tomorrow and my parents still treat me like a child.

It's frustrating, really. I worked so hard to appear fearsome and respectful to my pack since I'm inheriting the alpha position in a few days, but mom and dad won't even let me have a say at my birthday party.

I slammed the door open upon entering my office and slammed it again shut, making sure that they know I am furious, so they never try to disturb me while I calm myself. Not that I know how, but I at least try every time.

I sat and rested my head in my chair. I can't help but think and worry about tomorrow. Not that I would immediately recognize my mate, but the possibility of this happening is high since the previous alphas including my dad were able to recognize my mom as his mate just moments after his birthday.

As much as I wanted my mate to be Ava, that is entirely out of my control. I understand why Ava had to break up with me just weeks before I turn eighteen. I am actually glad that she was able to muster up the courage to initiate the breakup, she may not know it but I really am proud of her for being strong during this time.

I was deep in my thoughts when I caught this familiar scent that I have been smelling for the past few days. It smelled of flowers, I don't exactly know which one but it smelled nice like the forest. And for some reason, It made me calm and peaceful. I drifted into a fast slumber while enjoying the scent, not minding where it is coming.

I woke up from the loud noise outside the house. The guests from other wolf packs must have started arriving. I can sense the crowd is growing as the night matures. It is to be expected since the Sacred Moon pack has maintained its good relationship with the neighboring packs for decades now. And naming the new alpha is something that every pack would look forward to. Some would come in the hopes that their daughter could be my mate, but most are here to secure a good impression from the new alpha.

Unwillingly, I forced myself to get up to get ready for the party. I marched my way into my bedroom and went for a quick shower. When I got out of the shower, my clothes are already lined up in my bed. The maids must have waited long for me to leave my office.

I was still in my towel half naked when I smelled again the scent. This time it was stronger which made my wolf uneasy. I sniffed and followed the scent unconsciously. I stared at the familiar door that the scent led me to, It was Ava's room.
