"God, you really are stupid." I stopped, my eyes going cold. "Nathan, if I was bold enough to walk in here, do you honestly think I'd leave Sunny alone in that OR?"
His pupils shrank.
"Sunny," I raised my voice toward the open door, "come in and say hi to Daddy."
The door swung gently open.
Sunny stood in the doorway, wearing the pink dress I'd deliberately put her in that morning. She looked small and uncertain, hovering at the threshold.
Her eyes were red. She'd been crying.
And right behind her stood the men my father had sent.
Nathan went completely still, as if something had struck him. Every drop of color left his face.
His mouth fell open. He couldn't form a single word.
"Daddy," Sunny said softly, her voice thick with tears, "don't you love me?"
