Nathan's eyes lit up with the look of a man grabbing at a lifeline.
"Sunny, where is she? I want to see her!"
"She's next door." I pressed the intercom. "Elaine, bring Sunny in."
A few minutes later, Sunny came through the door, hand in hand with Elaine.
She was wearing a pretty new dress, her hair brushed into neat braids, cradling a doll far more exquisite than any I had bought her, a gift from her grandfather.
