Chapter 67: The Gathering The call came on a Thursday. Maya was in the shop, sketching a new logo for a client, when her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen and saw Jesse's name. A small smile tugged at her lips. He'd been calling more often lately, always with some new story or piece of gossip. She picked up the phone, expecting a joke. "Hey, you," she said. "What's going on?" "We need to talk." His voice was serious. Not the usual Jesse. "Can you come to the bar?" Her heart dropped. "What's wrong?" "Nothing's wrong. Just—come.
