Lily's Arrival

RIDE OR CRY The day Ghost's daughter came to Nowhere, the whole bar was buzzing. Maya had never seen Ghost this nervous. He'd been pacing for hours, checking the clock every few minutes, straightening things that didn't need straightening. He'd swept the same spot on the floor three times. He'd moved the salt shaker from one end of the counter to the other and back again. He'd checked his phone so many times Maya was surprised the screen hadn't cracked. She watched him from her usual stool, a small smile tugging at her lips. She'd never seen him like this—so human, so vulnerable, so full of hope and fear all at once. It was strange, seeing the man who'd always been so controlled, so distant, so carefully guarded, completely undone by the prospect of his daughter walking through the door.
