The next morning, Ethan found that he couldn't get through to Charlotte on her phone.
His flight back home was in the afternoon. Before leaving, he wanted to ask Charlotte out for a meal, only to find her phone off when he tried calling.
At first, Ethan still had a sliver of hope, thinking she might be in a meeting.
But when he called again in the afternoon, the phone remained off. Ethan then knew that Charlotte had most likely changed her number.
He even took the time to visit the house Charlotte had taken him to the night before and found the agent taking photos and showing the house to clients.
The house had obviously been tidied up. The design drafts on the table had been mostly cleared away, though the books and other items were still there.
