Luca: The wedding was over, and we were back in the penthouse. Bringing Cassie back here after the mess at the wedding should have felt like winning. Instead, all I could think about was how close they’d come. Her mother sat on the couch, a half-empty cup of tea in her hands. She looked like she hadn’t slept in days — even though she didn’t know everything that had really happened. Cassie walked in behind me, still in her wedding dress. She looked exhausted — but she held her shoulders straight for her mum’s sake. Her mother stood and pulled her in. “My baby,” she whispered. “You looked so stunning today.” Cassie let out a small laugh against her shoulder. “Thanks, Mum.” Her mother brushed her cheek with her thumb. “Are you sure you’re alright?
