I couldn’t help but notice that your hair is kind of unusual. Not in a bad way! I mean in a good way. It’s pretty. I’ve never seen anything like it. Is it colored?” Kate asks Luna while observing her hair. “And your eyes. That’s the lightest and prettiest shade of blue I’ve ever seen for an eye color. I’m sorry. I don’t mean any of this in a mean way. It’s all gorgeous and new to me.” Luna was curious about it as well, and the way Kate’s been looking at her isn’t exactly helping her nerves.
At least no one else has noticed yet. Luna sighs. “To answer your bajillion questions Kate, yes, they’re unusual and I’ve been curious about them for the longest time. My hair isn’t colored nor dyed. I was born this way. White hair with lavender or lilac purple hair on the ends except for my bangs. Which is weird. Everything about me is weird.”
“You’re not weird. You’re cool, awesome, and different. And we like that about you. Even if we just met you.” Jackson says encouragingly and then laughs.
“Thanks Jackson.” The school bell rings. “Well. We gotta get to class. What’s your guys’ first period? I have math.”
“Me too! Math buddies!” Kate says. Luna and Jackson laugh.
“I’ve got science. Have fun in math you two! Bye!”
“See you after class Jackson!” Luna says right when Kate says “Come on Lunaaa…” as she’s pulling her arm to get into class. “It’s time for math, you adorable weirdo.” They both laugh. The school bell rings once more to start class. The girls take their seats in the third row. Luckily for them, there were two desks right by each other in the middle.
The teacher walks in looking at a paper in his hands. Luna puts her black hood back on. Hiding her hair. Luna is a very shy and insecure girl. She normally doesn’t like to talk, but now she has two friends. Even though they just met ten minutes ago, she’s felt less shy, more confident, and more comfortable around people that’s not her family.
“Alright class. Take your seats. It's time to do attendance.” The teacher starts calling student’s names and they each responded with “here” unless they were absent. Some even tried to trick him. But he knew which ones they were. “Nathan, I know you’re back there. Don’t even try.” He then reached Kate’s and Luna’s names. “Kate?”
“Here.”
“Luna? Is that right?”
“I’m here and yes, that is correct.” she says quietly.
“Good morning class. I am your teacher, Mr. King. Today we will be talking about the school rules, classroom procedures, where things are, and more. Tomorrow we will be taking a quiz to see what you know math wise. Let us begin.” He begins to talk about the school’s rules and the class rules.
Moments later, he finishes speaking and allows the class to talk, draw or read until the bell rings. Of course, Kate chooses to talk to Luna.
“What do you like to do?” Luna asks when Mr. King sat down at his desk.
Kate responds almost immediately. “I like to do a lot of things. I think my favorite thing to do is going outside or playing soccer. Probably mostly just being competitive.”
It looked like Kate had a lot more she wanted to say, but she could only say a couple before the bell rang.
“You are dismissed. See you all tomorrow.” Mr. King says as they begin to leave. A couple minutes later Luna and Kate meet up with Jackson by the Auditorium.
“How was math you two? Anything I should know?”
“All we did was listen to Mr. King explain boring old rules. He also said that we’ll be taking a quiz tomorrow. Ugh. I hate tests and quizzes. And we have one tomorrow! The second day of school!” Kate complains some more about math to Jackson as they make their way to the stairs. They stop by the front desk to get their locker numbers and IDs.
“What number did you guys get?” Kate asks “I got 216.”
Jackson was the first one to say his next. “I have Locker 215. What’d you get Luna?”
“Locker 214.” She almost whispers.
“Awesome! How convenient! We’re all right by each other!” Kate exclaims and then adds; “Race you!”
Luna and Jackson were left behind taking a second to realize she had already made her way to the stairs. They look at each other and then run up the stairs after her. Kate had reached the lockers as Luna was only a couple feet behind her and Jackson just got to the top of the stairs.
“You guys are so slow! Yo Jackson! I thought you were faster than that! Get over here!”
Out of breath, Jackson walks over and opens his locker. Luna is last to open her locker. She scans her Student ID card on the small screen on the left and middle side of the door and enters her favorite number twice to use for her password. It swings it open.
Wow. So much room. They even have bags for gym clothes and other loose items. Luna stands there for a little. The next bell rang.
“The warning bell.” she says to herself now worrying a little. Quickly, she grabs her Student ID card and places her gym clothes, and her iphone and headphones in her locker and closes the door. There is a sound of a lock clicking coming from the door. Huh. It locks itself. Nifty.
“What’s your guys’ next two periods?” she asks as Kate and Jackson put their backpacks back on. “I have Chemistry and L.A up next.”
“Dang, girl! You lucky. I have History and Gym next.” Kate whines. “I have to go to History before gym.”
“Haha. Who’s the loser now? Eh, Kate?” Jackson teases. Kate groans. “I have Chemistry as well. Lucky us.” he smiles. “After Chem, I have… Multimedia! Yesss! Cya loser!” Jackson laughs “Come on. We’re going to be late. And Miss Kane does NOT. Like it when people are late. So I've heard. You better go too, Kate. Mrs. Blache has low patience.” They all wave and split to go to their next classes.
While in Chemistry class, they got to play with a bunch of the lab equipment. Jackson and Luna even made a pretty awesome slime they got to keep. They laughed and had a lot of fun. Unlike Kate, in which she had to sit and take notes in class.
“Who here can tell me what the Civil War was?” Miss Blanche asks the class.
A couple of students raised their hands, but she chose Kate. Kate didn’t even raise her hand and she was chosen to explain what the Civil War was. She was having the worst of luck until Gym class. Her favorite class. In gym, they played Capture the Flag. Kate was chosen to be Captain of Team Red. She had chosen her teammates and they each put on a jersey. Kate was on a roll during class. She was praised by the other students, including most of the blue team. The bell then rang and Kate went to change back into her normal clothes before meeting up with her friends to go to lunch.
