The Welcoming Ceremony
It was common knowledge that Vampires and Werewolves never associated with each other, due to their hatred for each other, and their deep-seated disgust for each other's origins.
So for Alpha Caden to involve Vampires, then it was highly likely that rogue attacks were more coordinated than the higher–ups were admitting to. The attacks were not just random, and it probably meant that the rogues had a leader, a powerful one at that.
Camelia thought about the location of the house. If the enemy's attacks ever broke through the gates defenses, then her house would be the first resident to be hit.
Just as the thought crossed her mind, Camelia immediately brushed the thought off. Reassuring herself that there was no way the Pack's defenses could be broken easily. She was confident in the Pack's defenses, but some doubt lingered in her mind.
Dart snapped his fingers in her face, when he noticed how silent Camelia had been.
"Where'd you disappear to scardy cat," he teased, grinning at her distant face.
Camelia rolled her eyes.
"I was just thinking about the Vampires. How old do you think they are. I heard that vampires are immortal," Camelia said, her eyes sparkling with curiously.
"Why do you have that look in your eyes?" Dart asked with a frown between his brows. "Look Camelia, I know that you may be fascinated but trust me, Vampires are not things to be fascinated about. I'd advise that you kept your distance from them, but knowing you, I'm sure you'll do the opposite," he said with a sigh, already knowing that conniving his friend was practically impossible.
"Sure, sure," she waved her hands. "I'll stay away." she assured him, tapping his shoulder.
Camelia smiled, she couldn't wait to see these vampires. She had never seen any other species, except for her kind, and being the curious type she wanted to know more about the others. Her smile quickly dropped from her face, when she recalled that she was not allowed to attend to the ceremony.
But her face quickly lit up the next minute as she stared at Dart, beaming. Before she could even speak, he already knew what was on her mind, as he frowned.
"No." he shook his head in disapproval. "I won't sneak you into the welcoming ceremony," he said with finality in his voice.
Camelia's face dropped, her lips pouting cutely at him.
"Come on," she pleased, holding on to his arm and looking up at him cutely. "You know I hardly ask for favours," she blinked at him, her lashes fluttering adorably.
Dart gulped, immediately averting his gaze from hers, his ears burning red.
"Quit leaching on to me like that," he said, trying to pull his arm away from her grasp.
"So are you going to sneak me in?"
Sighing in defeat, Dart glanced at her again, his eyes meeting hers. He already knew that there was no saying no to her.
"Fine. I'll sneak you in, but only for ten minutes." he said.
"Yes!" Camelia beamed, springing up to her feet.
....
Brushing her uniform down, Camelia smiled. Dart had successfully sneaked her into the event in the guise of a server. She had also dyed her hair into a crestnut shade, to hide her blonde hair, and even went as far as applying some make-up and even wore glasses all in an attempt to disguise herself.
Now all she had to do was keep her head low and avoid trouble. Speaking of trouble, the one and only pack event organiser, Miss Olga stood tall and proud, addressing the other girls.
For some reason she had decided that only girls would be working as servers.
"As you girls are well aware of, we will be serving important guest tonight," she said, eying each and every one of them. "I will not tolerate any mistake or silly attitude towards our guest. Understood!?"
"Yes miss Olga!" The girls responded in unison including Camelia.
After examining each of the girls attire, Miss Olga led them out from the kitchen into the hall. The hall was fully lit, the chandelier beaming brightly at the center of the ceiling. The air held a hint of polished wood and flowers, mixed with the smell of cologne
The hall was mostly filled, but not as cramped as it usually was for other events, considering that most of the park members were still weary of the Vampires presence. Camelia looked around searching for any Vampire around, but she saw none.
As each girl went in different direction, Camelia took two glasses of wine on a tray and proceeded towards the far end of the hall.
Her steps were slow and careful, her eyes focused on maneuvering through the crowed, trying not spill the drinks on the tray. She was not accustomed to such a job, hence her deliberateness.
Despite her carefulness, she collided with someone in front of her, spilling some of the wine on his trouser. Camelia gasped, staring at the mess she had made, before she looked up to apologize, but her voice got caught in her throat, her eyes widening behind her glasses, as she met his deep crimson gaze staring down at her.
A Vampire! she had just spilled wine on one of the guest. As the thought crossed her mind, her widened eyes immediately turned to panic.
"I am so sorry," she apologized, bringing her eyes down to his shoes.
She was supposed to be thrilled at the moment. After all it had been her wish to see a vampire tonight, but how could she feel any thrill, when some eyes were pinned on her, including the Alpha's.
"It's okay. You didn't make that much of mess," Thomas reassured, smiling brightly to ease her.
Camelia looked up at him again, taking in his facial features. He was gentle looking, the piercing on his left ear gave him a bad boy look. She was a bit stunned as he looked very younger, around Dart's age.
Snapping back to her senses, Camelia noticed the Alpha heading towards them. She immediately lowered her head, to avoid his gaze and began walking towards the opposite direction, this time taking more precaution on to bump into anyone. She might be pulling off deceiving everyone else, but The Alpha would catch her scent if he got any closer, and she couldn't have that.
Thomas stood in the same spot watching the girl as she left, his expression turning vacant. He clicked his tongue, silently, before wearing his polite facade back the next second.
"Is everything okay here?" Alpha Caden asked, as he came to stand beside Thomas.
Thomas sprung around to face him.
"Oh yes. Just a small slip up with one of the human server. Nothing serious." Thomas said, staring down at his trouser. "If you'll excuse me, I'd like to get this cleaned up."
"Let me call someone to help you find your way to the washroom." Alpha Caden offered, already gesturing towards one of the servers, but Thomas stopped him.
"No need for that. I'll find my way," he replied with a polite smile, as he began walking away, not even giving Alpha Caden a chance to object.
"A human server," Alpha Caden mumbled to himself, a frown appearing between his brows adding more wrinkles to his aged face.
He was certain there were no humans in his pack, so was the arrogant Vampire mistaken or could it be... That runt. His frown only deepened when the thought crossed his mind.
"She wouldn't dare."
....
"That was a close one," Camelia exhaled, resting her bum against a tree bark.
From behind the tree, she peeked out her head, staring towards the building where the ceremony was being held. If she had delayed for even a second longer, Alpha Caden would have caught her scent and who knows what he would have ordered to be done to her.
She sighed, taking off the tedious wig from her head as she turned around, only to bump her head into someone's chest. She yelped, stumbling backward only to hit her back against the tree behind her.
She looked up at the person's face, her eyes still filled with fear. The night was too dark due to the absence of the moon that night making it impossible for her to see his face. Yes she was certain it was a man standing in front of her, and she was also aware that he was a Vampire with his bright crimson eyes staring back at her.
'What is a vampire Doing out here? Why isn't he in the party?' as those questions flooded her mind, she only grew more tense, the hairs on her arms rising as her fingers turned cold.
