A slight tap came on Helena’s door. “Mistress, we will be landing in the next valley shortly.” It was Phoebe’s voice. It was hard to mistake her and Gertrude’s accent with the others of the crew.
Rosa spent most of her time in the workshop with Mister Wizard, Gin, and Rock. Krushna had her Dragon egg to babysit. Deirdre still mourned the loss of her Ross. Gertrude and Phoebe chatted away in Cantonese, probably about clothing, while Captain Calico Cox and the crew stayed to themselves, running the ship.
It was strange for Helena to be surrounded by friends and yet feel constantly alone. Even Doyle’s arrival, which she had hoped would spark flames, was complicated by the fact that he had a legendary creature attached to his leg.
