"Done with the playing-hard-to-get act and moving on to a pity play?" Ethan's voice came through, cold and ruthless. Evelyn had no time to explain; her eyes stung slightly. "Just take me to the door, please..." "I'm busy," Ethan interrupted indifferently. "I have plans tonight. I won't be coming back." "Ethan, I..." Before she could finish, the call ended abruptly. She heard hurried footsteps outside, growing fainter, followed by the sound of the door closing. The pain in her body grew more intense. Evelyn clutched her stomach helplessly and tried to move off the bed. With a thud, she collapsed to the floor and lost consciousness. The next morning, Evelyn woke up still lying on the cold floor. The bloodstains on the floor and bed had dried. He really hadn't come back last night.
