Elias’s POV
“Tell me this is a joke.” My voice trembles. She scoffs; the corner of her mouth lifts in that smug, unbearable way. “You’re f*****g joking.” Anger sharpens the words.
“This isn’t a joke, Elias.” Her voice is flat, edged with irritation. “I’ve told you — I don’t love you. I don’t need you anymore. Leave me the f**k alone.” She straightens, the lines around her mouth hardening. “It’s only right I move on. I’ll be with someone who worships me.”
Pain blooms behind my ribs. I take a step toward her; my knees want to buckle. “You can’t do this to me, Alina.” The words come out raw. She steps back as if distance could make the moment less real.
“Elias, what are you doing?” Fear trembles through her voice. I close the gap and grab her wrist.
