My godmother and long time nanny Ferayie softly welcomed me with her usual warm and sweet smile drawn all over her face. Oh god how I missed her sweet presence. She quickly grabbed me into her tight hug, gently brushing through my brown golden long hair with her lovely fingers. I decided to close my eyes for a moment. Let go of the grief and rage within me. In a second, it was replaced with pure love and peacefulness. Sometimes I just ask myself, what would have happened if our life hasn’t changed a 180 degrees in an eye blink. That night changed all of us. The night of my parents’ death forced us to be different people. No one is the same in this place. She let go of me and I can already see it in her eyes, the tears of happiness.
“I missed you so much, Ferry anne”
I smiled back at her but I am pretty sure she has noticed that there is something about me that is different. She scanned me with her eyes that is full of mix of delight and sorrow. She whispered
“It has been so long, right?”
while narrowing her eyes in a way to re-assure that I am over everything in the past. I nodded in approval.
“Don’t worry, I’m here for grandpa and only for him.”
She smiled in relief and hugged me once more, she patted on my back before we let go. I waved at the servants, some of them I know and some are new. Seeing their confused faces made me chuckle. We walked through the massive garden, this garden was originally for my mum. She took care of each little inch of it, grew many types of flowers. She was so peaceful who loved life to the fullest. Ferayie made sure to keep it alive as a tribute to my mom, and she never failed. Now it is bigger and more peaceful than ever.
I took a deep breath before asking
“Sooo how is he?”
“Your grandpa? Physically or mentally?”
“Both” I shrugged
Ferayie slowed down before facing me
“Physically, he has been quite sick for a while. He tried to conceal the fact that he is getting older and needs to take a break”
she paused for a while looking into the emptiness
“I have begged him several times to bring you back from the UK, and have you by his side”
“Where is uncle Ferit then?”
I interrupted
“Your uncle…” She paused and looked down while a slight smile was drawn on her lips
“Your uncle is doing nothing but being a reckless human being, financially irresponsible because of his non ending debts and now he slowly made your grandfather responsible for resolving all his issues”
She licked her lips in annoyance and it is quite visible on her face.
“Selfish, drunk and always losing gambling”
I furrowed my brows in amazement, he seemed to be pretty decent to me the last time I saw him. 10 years were enough to turn him upside down. My dad is the oldest son of my grandfather, so my grandpa used to rely on him in so many businesses. My dad usually handled all the heavy work, while my uncle was just responsible of connections with clients and stakeholders and somehow I sensed the jealousy from my uncle towards my dad. Let me be clear, at some point I thought that maybe.. just maybe my uncle was part of my parents death. This is why I never understood why he didn’t want me to leave when he could have just enjoyed taking my dad’s place all for himself and enjoying it without seeing the daughter of his brother whom he killed. But instead he actually wanted me to stay for some unknown reasons. And now? He is “selfish and drunk”? Wow what a plot twist.
“What happened here?” I whispered
“Sorry? I did not hear you” Apparently I have interrupted Ferayie’s train of thoughts.
I gave her a quick smile while pushing myself forward in a gesture to her so we can start moving faster.
“And mentally?”
She gasped “Let him tell you about this… himself”
She opened the door of my grandfather’s sprawling huge balcony that offers a magnificent view of the whole palace and my mother’s garden. Standing there, I noticed my grandfather is joined with a group of familiar faces, slightly aged. As soon as I entered all their attention was directed at me. My grandfather slowly turned to face me, and tears started to stream down his face right away as he called my name.
“Asia, welcome back darling” his raspy, elderly voice rhyming in my ears. With open arms he eagerly awaited the long- awaited embrace ready to surround me with his warmth and love.
Suddenly I am all filled with emotions and my eyes seems to be crying fountains. I threw myself into his hug, smelling his beautiful smoky musky scent. It appears that I am unable to restrain myself from tears while I am surrounded with his embrace. This long awaited moment has awaken a sense of home, family and a profound emotions that I have missed ever since I lost my parents.
“I missed you my hero “kahrman”
“I missed you so much… soo much” he replied while heavily weeping.
I widely smiled while sniffing in all tears falling from my eyes. I wiped the tears on his face with my hand, and calmed him a bit while gently grabbing his shoulders as he had some difficulties to catch his breath. He grabbed me from my waist to turn me around so now I am facing that group of people that I have almost forgotten their presence and they must have witnessed this overwhelming emotional moment. He started proudly introducing me to the group, some of them already know who I am. No need to introduce me to them, they fear me for unknown reasons. Looking at their smug grins on their faces, somehow feels like they are challenging me. No wonder my grandfather is tired of dealing with them. I just can not imagine working every single morning and hour with these faces. They are full of nothing but hatred, and I am really planning of staying here for a while. I will be joining my grandfather’s meetings and I will make sure they get used to my presence . Promise I will be a quite pain in the ass for everyone of them.
“You miss the UK already?” A calm raspy husky and familiar voice interrupted my thoughts.
I turned around to see whose voice is this, and it was none other than him - the boy that I have left behind ten years ago. Back then he pleaded not leave but the circumstances left me with no other options. He is still possessing those captivating light brown wolf preying eyes. His hair remained unchanged like a rich dark brown coffee, short, fluffy and thick hair. As he caught me scanning him, he flashed a seductive smirk enhancing the dimple on his right cheek.
I smirked back at him “Not yet, Kuzey! Not yet”
