Chapter Three Callan gritted his teeth and watched the smooth-talking Dr Gerald leave Isla’s Bakery. The decision to keep Aileen at arm’s length had paid off. Here, she sat laughing and smiling at Dr Gerald Erwin when just a couple of hours ago she’d invited Callan for dinner. Damn it, did she think he’d fall in line like an eejit? He wouldn’t repeat his past. Callan trudged towards the police station, his mind reeling despite his earlier jog. He should go pump some weights or thrash a punching bag.
