Selene's POV.
I felt a sharp pain from my throat as I was shaken awake, my body trembling like it was brought back from a deep well. But there was no water here, it was not cold, it only contained the weight of the bed beneath me.
The sheets of the bed were soft, but made no sense. They weren't rough like the ones in the Moonlight pack. No, these were silk, the kind I heard only the nobles had access to.
My heart pounded. Where am I?
I sat up quickly, my head spinning as I looked through this unfamiliar room. The walls were beautiful, it had tall windows that allowed the moonlight to enter the room. There were no stone walls like we did in the Moonlight pack's house.
This was a Palace, Emily’s Palace.
I raised a hand on my head, feeling a strange, long hair. My heart dropped, as the realization finally hit me. This wasn't my body. This wasn't my face either.
I moved forward and moved to the large mirror in the room. The reflection in the mirror was a woman. A woman I didn't recognise. She looked nothing like me. She had green eyes, full lips, she was elegant and stunning, but her face was not mine.
This was not me.
No. I'm Selene Ross.
But as the memories came back, I remembered my stepsister, Evelyn and my fiancé Jale, together plotting my death... I understand the painful truth.
I'm not Selene anymore.
I'm Emily Davis. The Queen of Silvermoon Pack, the wife of Alpha King Victor Blackwood.
The Moon Goddess gave me another chance... but at what cost?
I closed my eyes, trying to assemble my thoughts. My heart dropped as I remembered the last moments of my life. The Betrayal, the darkness, everything. I had begged the Moon Goddess for a second chance, for revenge and she allowed it. But with conditions I couldn’t fully come to terms with yet.
I only have 150 days.
If I don't find my true mate in time and he marks me, I will Vanish, I will disappear forever.
And as if that wasn't enough, I wasn't allowed to tell anyone who I truly was. I had to live Emily’s life, like I had always been here and no one must suspect or find out the truth.
I heard a sudden knock at the door that made my heart drop.
"Come in," I said, my voice shaky.
The door opened and before me, there was a tall figure, he looked powerful, and I could only be one person. Victor Blackwood. Alpha King of the Silvermoon Pack.
His aura was intimidating. His dark hair looked fine, his silver eyes looking at me with a confused expression. He portrayed authority, but there was something else in his eyes, something that seemed distant.
"You're awake." He said softly.
I swelled, forcing my eyes to look into his as I whispered to myself.
_Play your role, Selene. Be Emily_
"I... I don't remember anything" I said, my voice soft.
I had to play the part of a confused queen. But my heart pounded in my chest as I tried to sound convincing.
He looked at me more intensely, his eyes still hardened. "You suffered an accident," he said, as he approached me. "The healers said you hit your head. You should rest."
An accident? Was that how they explained my death?
I nodded, hoping my faked confusion would be enough. I couldn't let him see how scared I was. I couldn't let him see how hard I was still struggling to process my new life, this new identity.
"I don't remember you," I said, after a long pause.
"You will soon," he replied quietly. His tone was calm but still distant.
My heart beat twice as fast. What did he mean by soon? The truth was that we had never met before. But he didn't know that, not yet, and I hope he didn't find out.
He looked away, like something was troubling him. "You should eat. We have a lot to prepare for," he added, his voice was still calm, but was filled with tension, something I couldn't quite place.
"What... what do you mean?" I stuttered.
He looked at me, his eyes more intimidating.
"Tomorrow, we leave for Moonlight. We'll pay our respects to Lady Selene."
I was shocked at the mention of Lady Selene. Lady Selene. That was me.
The reality of my situation hit me all over again.
I wasn't just in another woman’s body. I was being forced to live her life, carry out her duties , face the consequences of a death that was caused by those I tried and to top it all up, I was to go for my own funeral.
I took a deep breath, trying to keep my cool. "Ofcourse," I said.
Victor turned away. But as he reached the door, he paused. He looked at me once again, like he was looking for something. But I didn't know what he was looking for, or if he even suspected the truth.
"Rest," he said again. "Tomorrow will be difficult."
He left the room, closing the door quietly behind me.
I stood there, as his words echoed in my head. Tomorrow. Moonlight.
My death.
I closed my eyes, trying to process it all.
This was only the beginning, but it already felt like everything was moving too fast. I was trapped in a life I didn't choose, confined by rules even I didn't fully understand. And all the while the clock was ticking. I had 149 days left.
I had to find a way to make sure this works. I had to find a way to make Victor a true mate and I needed to do it fast, before the time ran out.
But as my mind was filled with thoughts, a soft sound interrupted my thoughts
"Mama!"
A small figure stood at the door, before I could react, a little girl rushed in, she had bright green eyes, and they were filled with excitement.
I froze.
Aria. Emily’s daughter.
I didn't know her, not really. But from that moment on, she was mine.
She jumped into my arms, wrapping her little hands around my neck. "You're awake! I missed you so much mum" she said, her tiny voice filled with joy.
I let out a deep breath, my heart pounding as I held her close. She was so innocent. And now she was my daughter.
I wasn't sure what to do, I didn't know how to feel, but I couldn't pull away. Not from her.
Before I could respond, another small figure appeared in the doorway.
Aiden, her brother, stood there, his eyes looking at me.
He looked older than Aira, maybe by a year or two, and there was something serious in the way he looked.
He didn't rush to me like his sister , he just crossed his arms and stared at me.
"You're acting weird," Aiden said.
I felt unease through me. Did he know something was wrong already?
I faked a smile, trying to keep things as natural as possible. "I...I'm just a little confused," I replied. "I don't remember everything, but I promise you, I'm your mother."
Aiden looked worried, but he didn't argue.
After a moment, he turned away, as he headed towards the door. "Okay," he whispered, "but don't stay weird, Mama."
Aria looked up at me, her eyes filled with concern. "Are you sure you're okay?"
I nodded. I can't afford for them to suspect me.
"I'm fine , Aira. I'm just... tired."
I heard Victor's voice from the hallway.
"Enough, Aira. Your mother needs to rest."
Aira sighed but obeyed reluctantly following Aiden out of the room.
The door closed shut behind them, leaving me alone in the quiet room once again.
I went back to bed, still trying to process everything that was going on.
I was playing a role I wasn't ready for. At least not yet. A wife, a queen, a mother but none of these titles were mine they were Emily’s.
And tomorrow, I will stand before my own grave.
I had to act fast. I had to convince Victor I was his true mate before time ran out.
Because if I didn't...
I would vanish.
And everything I had fought for would be gone forever.
