When I reached the place, I locked my bike on the bike rack and got in with the box, I saw everyone seated on a table by the painting waiting for me, Fin came over and grabbed the box from me.
"Wow, you're excited to see me," I said sarcastically
"No time to get emotional, hurry up!" He said while taking a seat.
I sat down and Fin told me to take another look at the painting, I looked and I didn't see anything.
"What am I supposed to be looking at exactly?" I asked Fin
"Are you blind!" Nala shouted, got up, and pointed somewhere on the painting, I looked again and then I saw it.
"Is that ?" I asked
"Yes, it is" Fin replied
"The box! but how," I asked
"Obviously for the clues to be everywhere, they were meant for us to find them," Fin said
“Something is different about the box in the painting,” Nala said
“Yeah, the symbols aren't on it,” Monty said
“Don't you get it, that's the bottom of the box!” Fun exclaimed
“There must be something under the box, like a secret opening,” Nala said as she pulled the box towards her.
Nala flipped the box and touched it around it, she pushed the bottom and it bounced open. We all directed our focus to the box, Nala lifted the lid and looked inside.
"And the adventure begins," Fin said with a smile that was too contagious to miss.
There was a key, a compass, and engraved numbers, the numbers were '1920'.
"1920, 1920, ohhhh, 1920!!!!!" I said remembering something.
"What?" Monty asked
"1920, that's when the town was discovered," Azara said while walking up to the table, "I didn't know the whole crew would be here, hey stranger things"
"Haha, I see what you did there," Monty said
"So what's up?" Azara asked
"Well remember the box I told you about, so the painting..." I explained.
"Wow, it's almost like you guys are in a Dan Brown book, minus the someone hunting you down" she commented
"So what to do now?" I asked
"I'm a little over this whole thing" Nala admitted
"Why don't we take a break until we find the next clue cause this one isn't connecting any dots" I suggested
"Good idea, well see you around," Monty said leaving the table
"My lunch table is always free," Fin said leaving with a smile
"Bye I guess," I said
"Wait up" Azara shouted after me and we rode our bikes home together.
"Nala!!"I screamed into the phone
"Ugg, what do you want?" She nagged
"What makes you think I want something?" I asked
"Okay, what is it that you want to tell me?" She corrected herself
"Well..."
"Yeah"
"Mason"
"Mason what?"
"He asked me out on a picnic"
"No way!"
"Yes, way!"
"I'm so excited for you, when is the date?" Nala asked
"Tonight" I replied
"Wait, what"
"Yeah, by lake Llawnroc"
"That's so fun! Have to go but you need to tell me everything!"
"Okay I will"
"Bye Robin"
"Bye Nala"
Oh my goodness, it's like I'm dreaming but I'm still very awake. Mason asked me out more than once, maybe he likes me!
"What are you thinking about?" Mason asked me when he finished setting up the picnic blanket on the grass.
"I was thinking about how nice you set this up" I replied
He took my hand and helped me up, I sat on the blanket and he sat beside me
"I've never been out with someone this late before," I said
"Are you serious?" He asked thinking I'm joking
"Yeah, I am," I said while eating another cheese cracker
"Do you want to do something fun?" Mason asked me while getting up
"What?"
"Let's go for a swim"
"Are you crazy!"
"No, but you are going to be crazy to miss this"
"Who swims at night"
"People running from a killer, people training in the navy, people training to be Olympic swimmers, example me, should I go on?"
"You have a point but we don't have any swimwear"
"When did that ever stop anyone?" He said with a smirk while taking his shirt off, I took my clothes off and watched him jump in the lake.
"That's cute, looks like something my mom would get for my little sister" He commented on my underwear. I looked down at my baby pink hello kitty set and blushed, thank goodness he can't notice in the dark, I would have-
"What are you waiting for? Jump in already!" He interrupted my thought, I snapped out of my daze and jumped in.
It didn't matter that the water was cold because I was with Mason, I know, cheesy right, I'm cringing too.
We played in the water for what seemed like forever, we had a splash fight and he picked me up and flipped me at some point but it almost felt like the water went still when I caught his brown eyes fixed on me and I froze almost instantly before I knew it, Mason was kissing me and I was kissing back, it's like time stopped and everything was centered on us and us alone, together.
When we got out of the lake, we wrapped ourselves in the picnic blanket and lay down staring up at the sky.
"Do you see those three stars in an almost perfect line?" Mason asked while pointing out to them
"Yeah"
"Well, when they are connected, they form Orion's Belt, the Greeks believe that long ago, Orion was a great hunter but he became too pompous and he challenged the gods to fight, the earth opened up and out came a Scorpion sent by the gods, he fought the scorpion until it stung him and he died. Until this day, when you look up to the sky and trace out the constellations, you can see Scorpio chasing Orion."
"I never thought you would be the Greek mythology type," I said
"My granddad always loved telling me those stories, he always claimed to be part of the wise men who traveled the seven seas and used the stars as coordinates." He continued
"Wait, what did you say?"
"I said that Orion's Belt-"
"Not that, about the wise men"
"That they used the stars to know which way to go, like coordinates"
"That's it!" I said while sitting up "Coordinates"
"What about the coordinates?" Mason asked confused
"No time to explain," I said while getting up and helping him pack up
"Meet me tomorrow at cappa's?"
"What's cappa's"
"Carpe diem cafe on Patterson street"
"Uhmm okay, see you there"
When I got home, I ran to my room, sent a text to everyone telling them to meet me at cappa's the next day and I spent the night trying to figure out everything with the box.
