"You sure you're okay with this?" I asked Waylen, looking at him for any sign that he wasn't.
"Dad, it's fine," he replied, sounding annoyed with me. "I wanted to spend tonight together, but we can do that next year, right?" He finally looked up at me, his eyes shining with excitement. "After you seal things with Dra, or whatever."
I snorted at that.
"We're already dating right now, buddy, remember?" I said, amused.
"Yeah, but Dra is still scared," he said. "You gotta make sure she knows that we want to be a family."
"Okay, but you know that you're the most important to us, right?" I asked, hoping to hell that he does. "Deidra wanted to stay with you tonight too. I had to really talk her into having some time alone with me."
