Chapter 12: The Truth

840 Words
Wendy finally regained consciousness and looked at the four men towering over her. "it's alright Wendy. You have no need to fear as we are not here to harm you." Aaron smiled at her as she sat upright. The three men took their seat while Aaron kept standing. "Wendy, you might be asking yourself how you got yourself involved in all of this." Wendy simply stared at him without saying anything. "Well Alonso's last game session ended with that chip being stolen from him. Someone stole it from him and started contacting the names on that file. "And you think it's me, right?" Wendy managed to say. "Well, according to the surveillance video, you served him his last drink." Wendy stared surprisingly at Aaron. She knew she had served him drink but she wasn't the only one that was going around serving drinks to the players. "I wasn't the only one serving drinks." "Wendy I personally assigned you to him for a reason." Aaron promptly replied. "So you knew he carried that file?" Aaron nodded. "He always carried it." Aaron replied. Wendy found it quite strange that Alonso was carrying such sensitive information without protection. "Okay Aaron just say it." she said. "What?" "That I served him his last drink and then killed him." Aaron didn't say a word,"so you circulate a made up profile of me. " pointing to the file that was now placed on the table. She got up and opened the file. "Look, this is a criminal profile. This is the profile of someone who makes a living hacking down people like Alonso for a fee!" "And how do you know that?" Aaron asked her. "Because this is simply not me." she said "Then who is this person if it's not you?" he asked her. "You have a file I last saw at the house of a friend whom I didn't even know was a police officer investigating the Alonso murder!" she shouted "Thomas Waite, you mean?" "You know him?" Wendy asked surprised "We know he organized the van that took you to the station for interrogation." Wendy looked surprisingly at Aaron. She had a feeling he knew more than he was telling her. She looked at him with folded arms. "Aaron it seems you've been keeping an eye on me all these years right?" He nodded, "And that means you also know Thomas's colleagu-" "Diane Rodrigo? Sure We know her." he said smiling. Wendy slumped back onto the sofa. So many conflicting thoughts came to her mind. She didn't know what else to think but it dawned on her that if Aaron knew this much, then he also knew who killed Alonso Capri. She decided to ask him. "If you know this much then..." Wendy bit her lips while looking calculatingly at Aaron. She had a feeling she would offend him if she told him exactly what she had in mind. She decided against doing so and only asked him a question. "Who killed Alonso Capri then?" Each man in the room stared at her and then looked at each other. Aaron wasn't expecting Wendy to ask such a question since the murder was pinned on her. Now that she asked it, he had to tell her a truth he had kept from her for so long. "Who killed Alonso Capri?" he asked her. She nodded. He looked at the three men sitting next to each other. Each of them nodded as if to gve him their approval to go ahead and tell Wendy the truth. Aaron gestured to one of the three men and the man brought out an envelope from his coat pocket and handed it over to him. Aaron opened the envelope and brought out some pictures. He looked at them first and then lay each of the pictures on the sitting room table. "We think she did it." he said pointing a finger at the woman in the picture. Wendy sat up and looked at the woman in the photos. It looked exactly like her. She gasped as she looked at the striking resemblance the woman had with her. Aaron carefully observed her as she looked at the photos. He tried to figure out if her body language would give her in, but he found her to be equally surprised by this revelation. Wendy remained speechless while she kept looking at each of the photos in front of her. "Whoever she is has a striking resemblance to you." he said to break the silence. "So you think this is me?" she said looking up. She held her breath, her heart was beating fast. "Perhaps you might know her. I mean maybe she's you twin sister." Aaron said. Wendy looked at him. "I'm an only child." she said. "You can't be." He said with much assurance. Wendy fixed a strong gaze at him without saying a word. Doubt filled her mind as she looked at the woman in the photo again- She then slowly raised her head up and looked at Aaron.
