Chapter four: opposite paths

It was ten in the evening, a cold rainy weather . Ryan fell asleep on the couch and David stood on the balcony overthinking . His conscience wasn’t at peace. He got rich ,but he didn’t feel happy . He didn’t feel accomplished but rather felt a sharp pain in his heart like he had killed someone innocently. He couldn’t sleep till he fixed something. Out of a sudden , David ran out of the appartment to search for Alison without Ryan noticing. David ran for approximately an hour and finanlly spotted Alison’s blonde wig ,trekking from a distance. He ran and reached her . He spoke to her running out of breath. “Alison!..Please..Please..hear me out !”. Alison panicked that he came to hurt her again and cried out. “What do you want again from me ?..Haven’t you done enough?...y’all have won..Let me be!”. She ran. David followed her till she could hear him out. She suddenly stopped running and looked back . He gently moved towards her trying to catch his breathe . “Listen! I mean no harm…im not like my brother.I want to fix things” .David kept approaching her in a soft manner. Alison hissed . “And why would I trust you after everything you and your brother did to me?..You are a monster just like him!..You watched him touch me, you watched him harass me ,you both took all my money and property!..and now you’re coming to act remorseful?. Oh please go rot in hell.” . David felt his heart fall on his stomach. In as much as he’d do anything for money , he’d never steal ,abuse or hurt a lady. He wanted to make things right ,that’d make him feel happy. As calm and stubborn David could be ,he’d do anything to remove that bitter feeling from his mind . He ran back to her and faced her giving her no space to run .”I will do anything to make you forgive me.” Alison kept doubting. In as much as Alison hated David and his brother with passion ,she knew deep within her that he wasn’t exactly like Ryan. He was wicked ,but had a heart.She didn’t respond to him. “Okay please do me the honor of carrying you on my back till I get you home. Your feets must hurt so bad !” . Alison wanted it so bad but because of her ego, she denied . “I don’t need your help. I can walk.”

“Oh c’mon..climb on me!”. David turned and lowered his knees for her to climb on him. She hesitated for a minute but she found her body leaning on his.He gently adjusted her and he trekked. “Damn ,you don’t even weigh.I could carry you all day.” David tried to make her smile but Alison didn’t alter a word. It was midnight ,the streets were getting scanty and dangerous. Alison snizzed. David immediately dropped her and hurriedly removed his coat. For a moment ,Alison got scared he was trying to abuse her like his brother. She took a step back. David came at her back and wore his jacket on her. “Here you go.” He carried her back and kept walking. Alison in a confused state wondered. “Is this guy acting up with me or he’s actually caring ?. No Alison!Remember what they did to you. As soon as he leaves me I’ll ruin them all no matter what it takes .” . It got rainy ,there were no nearby spot they could go and wait till it stops. He ran to the forest hoping they’d find a tent they could protect themselves with.They spied and no one was in. He carefully dropped her in the tent and cleared the area . “I’m so sorry you’re in this situation. I’m gonna handle this. I’m gonna take care of you.”. He leaned and held her face assuring her .Alison didn’t respond.She suddenly felt butterflies in her belly . She didn’t know how to explain how she felt. She didn’t know what was more scary ,him being this sweet or her being in a dirty tent under the rain with a guy that literally took all her property. David finished clearing the area and entered the tent all wet and muddy. “Damn I’m so wet.” David removed his shirt. Alison secretly admired his six packs which portrayed his dark wet body. He leaned beside her and carried her and caressed her. “You might find this really weird but I’m not trying to take advantage of you. Don’t be scared. I’m just trying to make sure you don’t catch a cold and you’re comfortable. I got you !” .Till then,Alison didn’t respond. She admired how soft-spoken and thoughtful David was. She’d never been treated with delicacy nor had she ever been babied. He caressed her hair softly and her hands till she fell asleep. Alison woke up in his arms after a while and noticed David was up thinking . She got worried. “Why aren’t you sleeping?”. She asked politely , for once. “I can’t forgive myself for what my brother and I did to you.I feel so bad..I..I’m not like this..please forgive me…i will do whatever it takes..plea-eass..” David cried with so much pain and guilt . Alison had never experienced what she had before her. A brave man shedding tears infront of her. She got concerned.She pulled her blouse up to wipe his tears. “Hey, don’t cry. It’s alright. I can’t believe I’m about to say this but I don’t want you sad, i feel uncomfortable that you’re crying in this manner. Please stop. It’s okay…alright?” . David got more emotional that a whole diva like her could comfort him. He felt touched. He felt relieved. “I’m ready to give up on my life to return yours back. I don’t know you that much, but I’m willing to do everything to make you happy. With or without money.” . Alison laughed .David looked at her strangely. “What’s so funny?”. Alison looked in his eyes . “You sound cute saying all this. It’s been long I heard such a poor pick up line.” She kept laughing. He came closer to her face maintaining a lustful eye contact . “I mean it!”. They both got silent. She felt his heart beating fast as she layed all her weight on his. The tension got worse as it rained heavily. He fixed her hair behind her ear and neck kissed her but realized himself and stopped. “Oh sorry I shouldn’t have done thaa…” . She shut him with her finger. “Shhh!..Be a man and continue what you started.”. They both smiled. He lifted her and made her sit upright on his thighs.Compressed her body against his ,and they French-kissed.They slept till dawn. He woke her up with forehead kisses. “C’mon pretty, wake up ,let’s get you out of here .” Alison yawned and stretched her body out. “Hold on!..have you forgotten I’m left with nothing ?...where do you want me to go to?” . David took a deep breathe and kept quiet.“What?. Why aren’t you saying anything..what’s on your mind?” .Alison asked looking stressed and confused. “I’m turning myself in. My brother and I need to go down for all this disaster we’ve caused. You’re gonna get back everything you gave us. I’ll equally work to pay you back everything I used your money on.” . Alison reflected on everything . They both extorted her and threatened her. But he was willing to make amends. She came up with an idea. “I won’t deny the fact that you were part of all this. But I want to discover you. I want to know who you are. This is not you. This evil lifestyle isn’t your calling. Once all this is done. I want you to become my manager.I want you work in hand with you.” . David shakingly asked . “Are you for real ?..Don’t I deserve to be punished ?” . Alison exhaled . “Obviously life won’t just get sweet for you. If you want to make this work ,you have to turn in your brother. Put all the blame on him.” . David posed . “Is this what’s gonna make you happy and forgive me ?..if yes, I’m in. I love my brother and it hurts me to do this but I’m a man of my words and I told you I’d do anything.”

That morning Ryan woke up searching for David everywhere. Suddenly Alison’s guards broke into the apartment with police men. “On your knees!..hands behind your back!. Mr Ryan ,you’re under arrest for theft,fraud,and abuse.” . Ryan in all misbelieve notices David and Alison behind the guards. “Bro..what the hell is happening ? Tell them to leave me.. Brother tell them..Brother ?..Brother ..?” . Ryan panicked as he struggled to push the guards . Alison elegantly approached him and laughed . “ Bye moron!”.
