11. CANCEL THE CEREMONY

-LUKE- Kailee found her wolf and it couldn’t have been better timing. The full moon was in just 2 days and that was the best time for your first shift. Kailee and Tatiana had been talking a lot and I was giving them time to get used to each other. Zane couldn’t wait to meet his mate and run with her for the first time. Danielle and I were going over plans for the ceremony to officially add Kailee to the pack. We wanted everyone in the pack to be able to be there and show support to their future Luna. We knew Kailee wouldn’t like all the attention but this was a big deal and I would be there to help her through it. Security had hit a wall with investigating Kailee’s parents. I was frustrated that all our avenues had failed, but I was sure we’d figure out a way to find out what happened. I let Kailee know what we had found and that we weren't able to make any more progress. I could tell that she was disappointed but she stayed positive anyway. "Well, I have found my family here with you, so that is all I can ask for" she said. I pulled her in for a tight hug and kissed the top of her head. I wished I could solve this puzzle for her and it pained me that I couldn't. Meghan got a job in the pack house helping Julia and Layla with managing. The plan was to make Meghan, Kailee’s assistant, but in order to do that she needed to know everything about the pack house and how it runs. She had really done well in her new position and I was pleasantly surprised. She had really started to grow on me and I appreciated her loyalty to my mate. On the evening of the full moon, I waited for Kailee to get out of the bath. Through our bond, I could tell she was nervous. I wish I could link her but until next week, I’d have to wait. She came out of the bathroom dressed in short, black athletic shorts and a pink tank top. I was feeling her anxiousness and admit I was anxious myself knowing what she was about to do. Your first shift is painful but the moon gives off an energy that helps the pain a bit. After your first time, you start getting used to your bones being rearranged and, after a while, it doesn’t hurt to shift any more. She gave me a knowing look and together we walked downstairs. She asked that it just be the two of us for her first shift, which I agreed. We walked out the front doors and through the tall grass to the opening not too far from the house. With the moon brighter than I had ever seen it before, we placed our extra clothes on the ground. Kailee walked toward me not sure what to do. “When you’re ready, concentrate on Tatiana and picture yourself shifting. I’ll be right here with you” I assured her. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. A few moments later, I heard the first crack and she fell over moaning. I placed my hand on her hoping it would help ease the pain some, but she continued this way for what seemed like forever. About 10 minutes after it started, the most amazing wolf stood in front of me. Tatiana was just as big as Zane with all-white fur and red eyes. I stood in disbelief for a while before she walked over to me and nudged my hand with her nose. An all-white wolf meant she was more than just a wolf, she was powerful and we needed to find out how. -KAILEE- Tatiana and I were getting more comfortable with each other. I was happy she didn’t hold me at fault for locking her away. It turns out my headaches were her trying to get out of the vault the medicine put her in. She was strong and yet kind. She wanted to shift so badly after being locked away for so long. I was scared but she calmed me down. On the night of my shift, Luke was by my side. It hurt like nothing I had ever felt before, but I could feel Luke rubbing my back trying to help me. I could feel his helplessness through our bond and I tried to muffle my moans as much as possible but at times it was useless. Tatiana was talking to me throughout the shift and reassuring me that I was doing great. When it was over, I stood looking at Luke. His face looked like he was in aww but confused. I nudged him with my nose and he smiled. “Hello Tatiana, are you ready to run” Luke asked. He immediately shifted and jumped over me. He looked back to make sure I was following him, but that slowed him enough for me to run past him. We ran for a while until we came to a small lake. We both jumped in and shifted back. The water was covering both of us but it was hard to resist the thoughts running through my head. “Goddess, he is what dreams are made of“, Tatiana sighed. “Yeah I know”, I responded. I was still getting used to having conversations in my head. “How do you feel?” Luke asked me. “I feel great! That was so much fun” I said. I was one step closer to becoming my Alpha’s Luna! Tatiana and I practiced shifting a bunch and Luke thought it was best to do it in private. I was still getting used to wolves being naked after they shifted and I didn’t feel comfortable with anyone seeing me like that. I didn’t think Luke wanted anyone to see me like that either. Tatiana and I bonded almost instantly and we tried to figure out a plan to find out who my parents were. Although Tatiana was reserved about finding them, she was very protective of me and I thought of her as an older sister, just one that knows my every thought. -LUKE- It had been a week since Kailee’s first shift and she was feeling great. I didn’t tell her about the white wolf’s meaning yet. I wanted to wait till we got through the ceremony this evening before worrying her about this new information. I did tell my father and Kyle, who were both shocked. “She’s a white wolf”, repeated my father after I told him. “Now that puts a whole new twist on things,” answered Kyle. I wasn’t really sure what to do with the new revaluation, which left me with more questions than I had before the shift. Because of the size and color of Tatiana, I knew the legend was true. I didn’t know what powers she had but I was sure, now that she shifted, they would start to show. There was a knock on my office door “come in”, I projected and Kailee walked in. “Hi Francisco, Kyle, am I interrupting” she asked. “Not at all, actually we were just leaving”, my father said. He was always very good at reading the room. Kyle and my father closed the door, leaving a very nervous looking Kailee standing in front of me. “Is everything okay dear” I asked her. She hesitated and then placed both hands on the desk. One eye was red and the other green, so I knew Tatiana was helping her tell me whatever it was she wanted to say. “I want to cancel the ceremony”, she blurted out.
