“Why do I have to do that father?” Thorian asked with a frown. It was very obvious he was unsure of what to do.
He would never go against his father when it comes to family matters but now, he was in the middle of something he had to do and something he couldn't do.
“I don't want to reject her father. She is my mate and I don't want to go against anything the moon goddess as ordained.” Thorian said to his father who threw his head back in a wicked and mocking laughter.
“Do you even think she would care if you got rid of this liar?” He asked but Thorian didn't say a word. “Asannah is so much better than her and she would bring so much good to you rather than that thing who is just playing a figurehead role.” Vanrad said.
Asmeria was heartbroken by his words. She looked straight at Asannah who had the most sinister smile of pride on her face as she sat comfortably on her seat.
“You said this the first time too when I realized Asmeria was my mate. Father, I don't want anything from her, I just want her and no other woman at all. I don't want to leave her, father.” Thorian said and it was all starting to anger Vanrad at his son's disobedience. He turned to look at Asmeria, pointing right at her.
“Whatever it is you have done to my son to manipulate him, you better bring it down right now. You think you are worthy to be called by my name? You can never be worthy, you lowly wolf.” He mocked her, making Thorian grab his father's attention again.
He couldn't agree to him shaming Asmeria no matter what he was saying. Truth or not.
“I don't want to reject Asmeria, father. She is the one I want. Can't we just reason this out?” Thorian tried to speak to him but he just shook his head in complete disagreement. He couldn't let his chances to be with Asmeria slip.
There was something calming about her that made him attracted her more and want him to be a better person daily just for her. He could dare to say he was in love with her.
The only reason his father wanted him to marry from an alpha's family, was so they would birth a powerful offspring that would continue the family's legacy.
This was all his father cared about and he never cared about how he did it, if he was hurting someone's feelings or not.
“Can't we just think of another way, father? I don't want to leave Asmeria. I don't want to. I am in love with her.” Thorian said and as his father heard this, he laughed hard, slamming his fist against the table. The whole table shook and Asmeria was taken aback.
“But this woman withheld the truth from you! I would never let an omega come into our family and ruin it. Whether you like it or not." Vanrad seethed, his jaw ticking with rage. "You will marry Asannah and you will reject that good for nothing wolf you claim you are in love with. Do you know why? Because I don't care if you love her, you will do as I say."
Thorian's shoulders slumped, "But father, I—"
His father raised his hand, halting him. "It is either you reject her or I lock her up and starve her to death." Vanrad yelled angrily and Thorian's gaze darted to Asmeria who was shaking her head negatively.
She did mean to tell Thorian, truly. She feared that something like this would happen. She knew he wouldn't want to have anything to do with her if she had told him from the beginning.
She could see the hurt and the pain in his eyes, like he had just wanted her to be honest with him from the start.
She sniffled, wiping the tears that were threatening to fall with the back of her hand. “I didn't want to tell you from the very start that I was an omega, I was scared and I—"
“Not another word from you." Vanrad hissed, his eyes narrowing at her, each of his words outlined with hate.
Asmeria shook her head negatively with tears rolling down her eyes.
"Reject her, Thorian."
He protested, "Right now? At least can't we wait till—"
"Now, Thorian! Don't make me repeat myself!" Vanrad thundered, angered lines outlining themselves at the side of his head.
The timbre in his voice quivered in her heart and she felt it skip a beat.
He shut his eyes, letting out a deep breath and then he opened them. He turned to face Asmeria, sadness written all over his expression.
"I, Lycan King Thorian—" he began and it felt like a boulder was crashed on Asmeria.
Fresh tears slid down her eyes as she mouthed "no, no, no." But Thorian looked away, sighing before he continued it.
"—reject you, Asmeria…as my mate." He completed and immediately the words were said, Asmeria let out a loud yell, her legs giving out as she fell unto the ground, writhing in pain.
Simultaneously, Thorian groaned out in pain, shutting his eyes in a grimace as he grabbed his chest. He clutched it tightly as it ached, badly — as though a knife had been used to severe his chest, gorging his heart out.
"My Lord!" Asannah yelled, immediately rushing to Thorian before he would collapse to the floor. She gently helped him settle at the edge of the bed.
"Don't…touch me…" he managed to scold, pushing her away from him.
"You took the right step son. Family should come first in all your decisions and I'm glad you took the logical stance." Vanrad stated, "I shall get a doctor to soothe you…" he added, and then looked down at Asmeria on the floor, "And guards to take this one out of the room." He said and with that, he turned and left the room.
"My Lord, should I get you water, or do you have any medication in here that I can give you to—"
"Get the f**k out of my room!" Thorian thundered in anger and it made Asannah swallow down the rest of her words, flinching.
She shrugged, turning around and left the room. However, she had a big smile on her face, because her work here was done.
And if Vanrad was going to follow through with what he said…then she might be getting married to Thorian very, very soon…
She won.
Asmeria gently helped herself up, grabbing the end of a nearby table and using it to guide herself up. Her other hand was clutched to her heart as she stumbled unto her feet.
The pain shot through her like acid burning on skin, yet, she had to leave this room instantly.
"Asmeria…please, darling…wait…" Thorian called out to her, but she didn't listen.
Tears rolled down her eyes, feeling stupid and foolish that she would actually believe Thorian loved her. If he loved her, he wouldn't let anything come in their way as she tried her best not to let anything but there he was, he had just broken off their mate bond and they were both in terrible pain.
She stepped out of his room and staggered down the stairs. She had to leave — the entire palace. She couldn't stay here. No. And it was better she left herself than for her to be stripped off the last of her pride and thrown out.
She continued to stagger towards Thorian's vault where she knew he kept gold and other valuables. The guards there stared at her in confusion as they asked if she was alright. She nodded gently before moving over to the vault where the guards won't see her.
She picked a key from her locket and she opened a compartment from it, taking out some jewelry and a bar of gold, stuffing it in her clothes. As she stepped out, the guards looked at her in suspicion.
“Thorian asked me to get him something.” She said, dangling a golden necklace in front of them and they nodded, letting her go.
As soon as she left there, she ran out of the building as fast as her legs could take her. She could feel the weight of all she had in her body and at the same time, forcing her weak rejected body caused her even more pain than she could have imagined.
He wouldn't even notice if she took a part of his properties since he was that rich so why wouldn't she take something with her.
She stopped near a large forest, the bar of gold in her hand and she fell to the ground in pain.
She didn't know where to go or how to even get there but she definitely didn't want to return to Cedric's, never. Even if it was her last option.
Her eyes slowly started to close in exhaustion and hunger. She knew she would never be found here if she passed out here, so she forced herself up, making her way into the forest, maybe there would be a way out on the other side but as she tried to move, she felt a dark presence behind her and before she could turn, she felt a very cold metal on her neck.
“Just cooperate with me and things won't get ugly.” He said in a low and threatening voice. Goosebumps spread through her body as her hands trembled gently. “Let go of the gold. Nice and gently. If you make a sound, I swear, I'll kill you. Just be gentle and I promise you your life.”
Asmeria slowly dropped the brick of gold on the floor as she tried to stay strong and fight past her exhaustion. “Good girl.” He said, pulling her closer to himself with her waist. “Just be obedient and you won't have go fsve any force from me. But if you don't… you know what I'll do.”
His hands started to roam round her body slowly, making Asmeria shut her eyes tightly, anticipating a magic that would suddenly come save her. As his hands grabbed her breasts and felt the rings in them, he flicked his tongue. “Bring everything out of it nicely and slowly.” He said and she slowly did as he said, hands trembling. He gathered the rings and placed them in his pockets.
“Is that all?” She asked.
“Of course not, strip and let me see if there's anything else…”
“Hey, leave her alone this instant.” A chilly voice came from behind, making the man freeze.
