26 – Further Conflicts

“It makes perfect sense," he said, rising up to his feet. "Asannah initially wanted to leave the marriage because I couldn't give her children. But when she found out that you were back, and you came with my son, she got jealous.” His explanation seemed to fit the pieces of the puzzle together, connecting the dots in a way that made her heart sink with the weight of betrayal. And the realization hit Asmeria like a ton of bricks. “And since she knows there's no chance she can get back into my life, she wouldn't allow you enjoy what she missed out on.” he further reasoned, “Hence—” Thorian couldn't bring himself to complete the statement and Asmeria knew why. Hence, she no longer had any reason to remain in the palace. Should it be that Evander was dead, Asmeria would be kicked out of the palace. Thorian couldn't have anymore children if she stayed. And even though children were not entirely a determiner of whether or not a royal marriage lasted, mutual love took the remainder. And since Thorian no longer had feelings for her…there was no need for her to remain. Asannah wanted her gone. And she had acted out on it. Denying her the Luna title and denying Thorian an heir. Asmeria's fists clenched at her sides. They had both been played so easily and she hated the fact that Asannah had won — no, she had not. She couldn't allow her win. She was going to find her son and that was final. She wouldn't let Asannah's evil win. “It makes perfect sense," she murmured. “She's the only person who could do that," he said, “She had a valid reason to do it." "What are we going to do?" Asmeria asked. Thorian's response was swift and decisive. "I'll send my armies to her house," he declared, "We'll force her out and most likely find Evander there." Her brows furrowed in confusion at that, "Her house?" she repeated, disbelief coloring her tone. "Here, in your kingdom?" Thorian sighed heavily, his shoulders slumping. "Yes," he admitted reluctantly, meeting Asmeria's gaze with a bit of remourse. "The Luna is entitled to her own estate. And since we haven't been properly divorced, she still has rights to it. She's most likely still there. I doubt if she has left the Kingdom.” Thorian continued, "The mansion was supposed to be given to you, now that you're here — and my wife." he explained, "but I understand if you don't want it." Without hesitation, Asmeria shook her head. "No," she asserted firmly, "I don't want it." Thorian nodded, “I understand," he murmured, “That's why I've asked for the construction of a new one for you. You deserve all of your entitlements as my Luna.” His Luna? For some reason, hearing him call her that made her heart swell — more than she would ever admit to. It reminded her of the Thorian from five years ago. The Thorian that mindlessly fell head-over-heals in love with her immediately he met her. The Thorian that in one week, had made her feel the most love than she had ever felt in her entire life. She didn't know how he did it — maybe it was because he was so good with words, words that he never truly meant, words that he took back the very moment he was supposed to prove that he actually meant them. Words that made her feel so happy then, but tear her apart whenever she reminisced them now. She couldn't allow herself drool over his words anymore. Not again. Her priority now should be her son, not vain words Asmeria shook her head, "No," she said firmly. "That wouldn't work." She knew Asannah well enough to understand that she wouldn't go down without a fight. Confronting her head-on would only lead to further conflict, potentially putting Evander in even greater danger. They needed a different approach, a plan that would ensure Evander's safe return without escalating the situation further. Besides, she highly doubted Asannah still being in the pack having kidnapped Evander. She wasn't stupid. And knowing that the first place they would look for her was going to be that mansion, she must've left the pack already. “I don't think Asannah is still in the pack having kidnapped Evander. She obviously would know that the first place they would look for her was going to be that mansion. I'm so sure she's no longer in this pack.” Asmeria stated. Thorian pushed the chair back, his footsteps echoing in the room as he paced to and fro, rubbing his chin in deep thought. "So you're saying she must've left. And I suppose the place she would return to is your pack," “My pack? I no longer belong to them.” she said curtly. Thorian almost got happy upon hearing that, thinking that Asmeria had finally accepted him, accepted the marriage and accepted that she was now part of Obsidian Moon Pack. But he figured that even though a woman was married to her husband from another pack, she still had heritage in her birth-pack. She refused to be associated with her pack because of how they treated her. Not because she was married to him. Asmeria tilted her head to face him, "Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying," she affirmed. Thorian halted his pacing, ‘Then we need to act fast," he declared, his voice firm with resolve. "We can't afford to waste any time. We'll gather our forces and head to your pack immediately. Evander's safety is our top priority." She shook her head in disagreement. "No. For all we know, Cedric may be in on it. And he being the alpha, must've alerted his soldiers at the borders to let him know if your troops want to enter the kingdom. They can effectively hide Evander before we get in and honestly, direct confrontation is not what we need now," she explained. Thorian furrowed his brows, considering her words carefully. "What are you suggesting, then?" he inquired. "I will go alone.” Thorian's brow furrowed deeper. "Alone?" he repeated. “Yes," she affirmed firmly. "I don't have to pass through the known borders. I know hidden paths in the forest that I could navigate and get in.” She stated. “Plus,” she began, “My scent wouldn't arouse suspicion to the guards around. Because it is the scent of our people. But if you or your soldiers were to take those routes, the scents would immediately be discovered." Thorian's expression softened slightly as he absorbed her words. She was actually making a lot of sense. "Okay," he responded slowly, nodding in understanding. "What next?" “I'll go into the palace and talk to Asannah," she declared firmly. Thorian's brows furrowed, “Talk to her?” he asked. "Talk to her?" he repeated incredulously, His brows furrowed deeper as he questioned, "How is that going to solve anything? What exactly are you both going to talk about that would make her produce my son?" “Trust me, Thorian," she replied, "I have a plan. Just relax and leave it to me. I know how to handle this." Thorian hesitated for a moment, his expression reflecting his lingering doubts. However, after a silent pause, he reluctantly nodded in agreement. "Alright," he conceded, "But be careful, Asmeria. I honestly don't want you taking any unnecessary risks." ."I'll be fine, Thorian. Don't worry," He sighed, “Okay," he relented. "When will you be leaving?" “Tomorrow, six sharp," she replied firmly. Thorian nodded, processing the information. "Are you making the journey by foot?" "Not entirely," she answered, shaking her head. "I'll use a carriage to a certain spot and walk the remainder." "Okay," he acknowledged, "Just... be careful, Asmeria.” "I will" she promised. -:- After a long day of attending to kingdom affairs, Thorian finally returned to his chambers, eager for some rest. As he opened the door and stepped inside, he was surprised to find Asmeria coming out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped around her body. She gasped at his sudden entrance, instinctively reaching to cover the exposed part of her body. But of course, she couldn't effectively do that. Thorian's eyes widened in shock, immediately feeling blood rush down to his groin. "I'm so sorry, Asmeria," he apologized quickly, averting his gaze and taking a step back. "I didn't realize you were here." Asmeria's cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she hurriedly tightened the towel around her. "It's okay.” she said, “And it's my fault. I wanted to take a shower in my chambers, but the tap wasn't running. So, I decided to come here, thinking you would delay a bit before coming in." "I see," he replied softly. And his brows furrowed in realization and he turned to face her fully, “Are you not sleeping here tonight?" he asked. She hesitated for a moment before shaking her head. "No," she replied softly, avoiding his gaze. "I feel like maybe we should sleep separately from now on." Sleep seperately? Because he had asked her for s*x that night? Well, it was a valid reason, but he didn't know she would take it to heart. He quickly spoke up, "But what would those in the palace say if they find out the Luna is sleeping in a different chamber from her husband? What would they think?" His words struck a nerve with Asmeria, and she felt a surge of annoyance rising within her. "The 'people' and the alpha should understand that the Luna's son is missing," she retorted curtly, "I need to be alone right now." Thorian bit back any further protests He knew better than to argue further. He could already feel his c**k twitching in his pants from beholding her nearly half-naked. Flashbacks from that night they first made love on that balcony rushed back to his memories. And he couldn't help himself, especially seeing her now…like this His breath caught in his throat as his eyes roamed over her figure, wrapped in nothing but a towel. The soft fabric clung to her curves, accentuating every contour of her body. Droplets of water glistened on her skin, tracing a path down her neck and disappearing into the folds of the towel. Her hair, damp and tousled, framed her face in an alluring cascade of blonde waves. He could feel the heat building in his veins, and the primal desire stirring deep within his core. He couldn't to tear his gaze away. And he felt the scar of his mate bond mark throb with an intensity that was nearly painful. His hand raised to his neck, meeting with scar of their mate bond mark and felt how it was throbbing—a bit painful to touch. What was happening? Why was the bond reawakening. And then, Asmeria's gaze met his. His eyes widened upon seeing that her fingers were also resting on the scar of her mate mark, throbbing with the same intensity as his.
