10 - A New Life

{Five years later} It's been five years since all that happened. She almost lost her child while being abducted but thankfully, she was able to save him just in time and now she was a mother of a beautiful son. Since then, she has escaped to a rogue pack where she found shelter, food and had a better life than she used to, living independently. “Asmeria.” A masculine voice came from outside their house and she stepped out of the building, holding a basket. “You're in.” “Rolfe.” Asmeria called with a bright smile on her face. “You’re back? You should have just sent for me. I'm actually heading to the bakery to get some things.” “I missed you.” He said with a small pout as he pulled he into a small hug. They have been friends since she arrived, him being the one who found her helpless in the forest. It was surprising that he was the king of the rogues and had time for her which made the other ladies very jealous but she didn't care. “Get off me.” She said jokingly as she turned to her son who was walking out of the house fully dressed too. “Evander, come one let's go.” “So why do you want to see me, Rolfe?” They both walked down the street to the bakery she was heading to with her son, Evander. “I've been out in the borders often and it's really getting troubling that some of the men who are against us are trying to start a war.” He explained to her and she looked at him with a small frown. “That can't be good at all. We haven't had any war in four years.” She said, hinting back to the last war they had when he found her heavily pregnant in the forest. “Yes, and I have to make sure it doesn't happen. Everyone here we're accepted by their pack one way or the other and we can't let the pack exploit them again here.” Rolfe said with worry in his tone as she placed her basket in front of the baker who bowed to greet Rolfe. “So what's your solution?” Asmeria asked her and he seemed to think for a few minutes before finally replying her. “There's a function Alpha Draven is holding in a week. It is the perfect opportunity to get to know new people and make new allies.” He said in her low voice loud enough for only her to hear. “I haven't attended one in years but he invited me again this year and I don't want to seem rude to turn it down again.” “Yeah, it'll be very respectful not to reject the invite this time around.” Asmeria replied and he hummed gently. “That means you'll be gone for almost a week?” She asked and he nodded. “But I need a date.” He said, winking at her. “Will you go with me?” Asmeria looked at him for a few minutes. “Sure, why not.” She replied with a small smile. Asmeria knew Rolfe liked her but he won't say anything because of her experience with Thorian years back. Although he didn't know who the past man was, he still respected her decision. He still knew it took her time before she started to open up to him and he didn't want to force anything on her and was just waiting for the time she wouldn't feel uncomfortable for him to tell her how he actually felt about her. “You should probably move into the pack house the before we leave. Don't get me wrong, just to prepare for the journey. We can take Evander if you want too.” Rolfe said and she nodded happily. *** “Let go of me Thorian and don't make things get worse for us.” Asannah yelled as he snatched her hands from Thorian's grip. “Don't you think I've already had enough of you?” She dragged her bags out of the room with Thorian following her. He had this frustrated look on his face and he tried hard not to yell at her. He hasn't had any peace for years now since he got married to Asannah and he was getting tired of it. “Please, Asannah. We can keep trying…” “Keep trying? I don't want to be seen associated with an impotent man. How many years do we want to keep trying before you accept that you are impotent?” Asannah screamed at him, making him stop in his tracks. “You have no shame, for five years, you haven't had a child despite trying every single time. I'm done with this marriage.” Since they both got married, they haven't had any child. Everytime it seems like she was pregnant, it all came out as false claims. Asannah was frustrated already and drastically changed when they realized Thorian's chances of giving birth again is very low. “I would rather marry another man and give him children than stay with you.” She yelled at him, dragging her bags out of the house. “Asannah. Please, wait don't go. I'll do anything just so you can stay…” He tried begging but she already made up her mind and just ignored him, pushing all her bags into the carriage. “Good riddance.” She said, throwing the ring on her finger at him before stepping into the carriage which rode off without even stopping. Thorian bent and picked up the ring with anger as he walked back into the pack house, heading straight to his father's room. His father was laying in bed, looking sick and pale. The maids feeding him his medications hurriedly walked out of the room the moment Thorian stepped in. He has been in a very bad mood because of the way he and Asannah quarrelled almost every hour and he became this cranky man towards everyone in the pack house. His father's healthy had also worsened over the years and despite all medications given to him, hos health seems to only get worse and worse. “She left father. Asannah left.” Thorian said but his father didn't say a word and just kept staring at the ceiling. “What will I do now, father?” He asked but he didn't get any response again. He tried his best to surpress his anger before speaking up again. “What am I going to do father? You caused all this in the first place so you should have a solution to it and not lay down there like you're lifeless.” Thorian finally lost it, slamming his fist into the wall in anger. “You are the reason I got married to that woman and now you have nothing to say about her leaving me now? Everything would have been much better if I was just with Asmeria and you didn't force me to reject her.” He asked, his voice filled with hatred towards the old man. He didn't even care if he was sick or not, he just hated his sight even more and more. “You're dying, Thorian.” Vanrad said and Thorian looked at him with a raised brow. “What do you mean by I'm dying?” He asked with his voice calm, but still demanding answers. “According to our bloodline, after every four generations, the first son of the fifth generation must die at the age of thirty–five. And you, Thorian are the fifth generation. I haven't had the courage to tell you this since but I can't keep the secret to myself anymore.” Vanrad said and Thorian burst out laughing. He laughed like a maniac as he looked at his father who was laying in bed. “W-what? What did you just say?” Thorian asked as he looked down at his father. “I will be freaking thirty five in a few months and you are just telling me this?” Thorian ran his fingers through his hair in frustration as he looked back down at him. “Are you even listening to yourself? I don't have an heir father. I don't have an heir and if you had told me this nonsense earlier, I would have true even harder to get a child.” Thorian lashed out, hurt filling his tone. “You know what, I don't blame you. I blame myself for always listening to you. I blame my stupidity, I blame my foolishness.” Thorian stormed out of the room, fighting back tears. He was frustrated and angry but couldn't do anything about it. He slammed the door of his room shut and fell on his bed, grabbing his hair in frustration. He turned a side to look at Asmeria's picture which was son the side of his bed. He has given Asannah that condition to leave the picture there even when he was mad at her for stealing from him but it slowly dissolved as Asannah kept showing him hell and he missed Asmeria every passing second. He tried pretending everything was fine but nothing was fine at all. He was hating his life and even tried finding Asmeria's but no luck. His guard found suicide notes in all of her past houses but her body was never found if she did commit suicide, he would. He swore he was going to find her and he wouldn't stop. “Ask the men to start looking for Asmeria again.” He said to the guard standing outside his room who nodded before going off to deliver his message. “Asmeria.” Thorian said, picking up her picture as he traced her face with his fingers. “I'll find you and make you mine again.” Days passed and there was no news on her but he just drowned himself in work and refused to even step out of his office other than to bathe and change. One evening, one of the guards rushed into his office and it irritated him to the core. He was about to yell at him before he delivered his message. “Alpha, we found Lady Asmeria.”
