As the hours slipped away, our car finally rolled to a smooth stop in front of the massive iron gates. Spotting the vehicle, the security guard rushed to swing the automated gates wide open, letting us glide into a manicured front lawn the size of a football field. The mansion's grand facade, complete with a striking stone lion statue sitting proudly in the center, looked utterly breathtaking under the night sky. Built like a four-story palace including the attic, the estate practically laid the glittering waters of the Istanbul strait right at our feet. The Karadağ family lived in a home worthy of their terrifying reputation—opulent, heavily fortified, and entirely unique. Every single room had been custom-designed by specialized architects under Asilkan’s direct orders. There was always a meticulous reason behind everything he did. I was certain of it. One of the estate guards hurried over to pull my door open. I gently lifted Ege's head from my lap and stepped out into the night. A sharp blast of cold air hit my skin, sending an instant shiver through me. Carrying the sleeping boy in his arms, Asilkan led the way inside, where Tülay, an elderly housekeeper, greeted us softly. "Welcome home, Mr. Asilkan." At the sound of voices, Ege burrowed his face deeper into his father's neck, wrapping his small arms tighter around him. Asilkan gave a curt nod, cast a brief look my way, and started up the grand staircase. I followed closely behind the man whose silent presence commanded obedience, trailing him all the way to the very last door on the upper floor, which he pushed open and left slightly ajar. Stepping into the room behind him, my breath caught. He hadn't taken Ege to his own nursery; he had brought him straight into my master bedroom. I couldn't make any sense of it. He gently laid the sleeping boy down across the wide mattress, the muscles in his forearms straining slightly beneath the dark fabric of his shirt as he moved. He truly was a flawless father, always shedding his cold, terrifying armor the second he looked at his son, flashing that rare, softening smile. The moment he straightened up, I quickly averted my eyes, staring stubbornly in the opposite direction. We had already crossed far too many invisible lines today. Without looking at him, I walked straight toward the walk-in closet and pulled the door open. Grabbing a simple, plain black silk nightgown and fresh undergarments, I turned back around just in time to catch his reflection in the full-length mirror. His dark eyes—shining like polished marbles in the dim light—were slowly raking over my body, sending a violent, breathless kick straight to my chest. I hadn't expected him to watch me like that. "Will you turn the light off on your way out? Ege can't sleep if there's any glare," I said tightly, making a beeline for the bathroom to change. He didn't reply. Not that I expected him to. I slipped inside the bathroom, shedding my clothes and stepping into the warm embrace of the shower. Closing my eyes against the steady drumbeat of water hitting my skin, I tilted my head back, letting the spray soak my face completely. After a quick rinse, I slipped into the black silk nightgown and underwear, feeling a slight release of tension in my chest. When I stepped back out into the bedroom, the overhead lights were off, leaving only the warm, amber glow of the bedside lamps casting long, soft shadows across the room. Asilkan was sitting in the armchair beside the bed, his elbows propped on his knees as he quietly watched his sleeping son. Why hadn't he left yet? "Why are you still here?" My voice came out sharp, entirely unwelcomed. He had no business lingering in my room, sitting in my chair. "This is my house," he said slowly, lifting his eyes from the boy to lock them onto mine. "And this is my room, too... our bedroom." He never slept in here with me. At most, he would slip in quietly before dawn so the staff wouldn't suspect anything. But tonight, he was sitting right here, and his heavy presence made my skin prickle with tension. "I'm going to sleep," I said, keeping my voice low. "You need to leave." He stood up. The man who had looked imposing just a moment ago suddenly seemed to fill the entire space, looming large as he stepped toward me, one hand absently working at the buttons of his shirt. When he suddenly halted right in front of me, my voice slipped out like a frightened plea: "Asilkan..." The back of his index finger brushed against the exposed skin of my chest, right above the plunging neckline of my nightgown. His dark gaze tracked the slow movement of his own hand, locking onto my cleavage as his finger traced an agonizingly slow path upward. My back practically melted against the heavy wooden bathroom door while his touch set my skin on fire. "You took a shower," he muttered, his voice dropping into a thick, gravelly register. "The scent on your skin..." He paused, his thumb gently catching a stray lock of damp hair from my face and tucking it behind my ear. "How is it possible that you always—" "Please," I whispered, squeezing my eyes shut as if wishing hard enough could turn this into a nightmare. But it was entirely real. He was standing right here. "Asilkan..." Even as I silently begged for distance, his thumb pressed firmly against my trembling lower lip, applying just enough pressure to part my lips slightly. He needed to stop. I refused to walk down this path again; I had made that mistake once, and the fallout had nearly broken me. I wouldn't let it happen a second time. He needed to walk away and leave things as they were. "I want you..." The two simple words instantly dragged my mind back five years, echoing out of the past to slap the harsh reality straight across my face. "Don't," I choked out, the word barely escaping my throat. Even with my eyes squeezed shut, I could feel the blistering weight of his gaze fixed entirely on my face. He stepped in closer, his voice dropping to a murmur. "Why shouldn't I touch my wife?" It wasn't a real question. There was a quiet, dangerous edge of rebellion buried deep within his tone. His thumb brushed gently back and forth over my lower lip. "Stop..." His lips grazed softly against the shell of my ear. "There will come a day when you'll be screaming at the top of your lungs for me not to stop," he whispered, delivering words that squeezed my heart tight within the palms of his hands. "And on that day... I won't stop for anything."
