3 months later...
“Congratulations,” said the smiling male doctor who seemed to be in his late fifties.
“What do you mean by that?” Aria had become wary of his words just now. She hadn’t seen her period in a few months now. She recalled taking the morning-after pill after that incident three months ago.
“You are three months pregnant,” the doctor disclosed and at once, Aria’s face became as pale as a sheet.
“I’m what...? Doctor... How can I be? I took the pill,”
“Sometimes, taking the pill doesn’t guarantee hundred percent protection. There’s still a tiny percent chance that one would still get pregnant,” the doctor revealed and her eyes dilated.
Then she stared at her still-flat belly.
“I-I’m pregnant... I’m pregnant?! No, I can’t be,” she muttered and shook her head, staring at the doctor with a defiant look this time.
“Doctor, you must be lying to me. I don’t believe it!” she howled before storming out of the office. She headed to another hospital to get tested, this time fervently praying that the other hospital had made a mistake and mixed up someone else’s results with hers.
“Please help me, heavens. I can’t be pregnant. My future would be ruined. I can’t be up the duff!”
When the doctor came to the office, she immediately rose from her seat, a desperate look vividly painted on her face, her eyes pleading.
“Miss Aria,” said the female doctor who was holding an envelope in hand.
“Yes, doctor?” Aria frantically answered, beads of sweat on her forehead despite the AC in the office.
“Congrats!"
Aria's eyes immediately dilated, her lips quivering, “W-What? No...”
“You are 96 days pregnant, miss Aria." The doctor was dead set on completing the words.
Aria repeatedly shook her head, a tear sliding down her right cheek, eventually dropping on her chest.
"No, it can't be. I can't be pregnant..." She muttered, as she sat right back on the chair, feeling her vigour being sapped as her shoulders slumped.

Reaching her bestie's apartment, she began to cry hard.
"Girl, what's wrong? Why're you crying?" Laila immediately put down the two glasses of orange juice in her hand, wearing a worried countenance.
Sitting beside her on the sofa, she wound her right hand around her friend's shoulders, "Aria, what happened? Did someone piss you off so bad? Where's the location, I'll beat them up for you,"
"Have a look!" Aria managed to say, handing the envelope to her concerned friend.
Laila took out the paper from the envelope and read through it, her eyes widening in disbelief at the contents.
"What? Girl?! You... Y-You're pregnant?!" She exclaimed in surprise.
"My life is ruined, Laila," Aria's shoulders racked with sobs, her makeup an entire mess. "What happened? How..." Laila looked perplexed.
"That day... at the freshers’ party. I lied. I passed out after leaving the venue and the next morning I was in a hotel room, already had my cherry popped,"
“Gosh...” Laila was at a loss for words.
“I thought I was okay after taking the morning after pill. But then, I’ve missed three periods now. I had to go to the hospital and here we are. I’ve been up the duff for three f*****g months!” Aria howled.
“Oh my gosh, this... The man who did it with you, did you...”
Aria shook her head before her friend could even complete her sentence, “I don’t have any recollection of what he looks like. I know though that he’s a freshman. Still, I can’t just go about asking all the male freshers if they popped my cherry on the day of the fresher’s party, can I?
I didn’t even see the man after I woke up; that heartless bastard left me to sort out myself. Now I’m carrying his damn seed,” She growled and Laila pulled her into a hug, a tear already sliding down her cheek, her eyes misty.
“I’m so sorry. If only I’d insisted on following you...” Laila said softly, gulping as she got overwhelmed by many emotions all at once. Fear. Regret. Guilt. Shame.
Why did this have to happen to dear Aria?
“What are your plans?” Laila asked after they’d parted the hug. Aria’s parents weren’t just rich; they were loving but strict to some extent, the type who would choose family and values over money. They also pampered their only daughter a lot.
“I didn’t freaking plan for this to happen. I can’t let my life get ruined by this?” Aria said with determined eyes.
“Y-you want to terminate it?”
“Laila, what other option do I have? I’m going to raise the seed of an unknown man, endure so much shame and my parents would even disown me. If I want to continue my studies by then, I’ll have to juggle part-time work with studies and then pregnancy.... Come on, let’s be realistic here. I-I can’t raise this child.” Aria said with a lifeless stare ahead while Laila became even more troubled.
She rose from the seat and started pacing, with her back turned to Aria. “Gosh, what have I done?" she muttered, another tear falling down her cheek.
“It’s no use pacing. I’m dead set on it,” Aria said to her friend but then, Laila stopped in her tracks and turned to face her.
“Bestie, that’s a life you’re going to kill. Not just that, you could even die in the process,”
“I’d better die trying to save my career and future,” Aria reasoned with a firm look plastered on her face, she was struggling so hard not to cry.
This was an unwanted child, she had to.... She needed to get rid of it! ...
HELIAN HOSPITAL
She was seated on a waiting couch, zestfully awaiting her turn to go in and get the deed done. Laila had been calling her nonstop to the point she just shut the phone. Nothing would change her mind today.
Suddenly, a cute little girl of around five ran over to her, “Hello, pretty auntie...” she called out in a sweet voice.
Aria fixed her gaze at her and felt cuteness overload, she couldn’t help but lightly pinch the girl’s soft cheeks.
“Oh my, it would be nice to have a cutie like this,” she muttered and her eyes suddenly widened.
“Where’s your mom?” She couldn’t help but ask the girl, but she simply pointed to a lady who had just arrived with her husband, carrying a baby boy in her arms.
“Rixie, get back here,” the father called out.
“Okay, daddy. Bye auntie,” she ran back to her parents after waving cheerfully at Aria. The latter seemed to be in a trance and then looked at her flat belly.
She turned her phone on and it started to ring once more. Her bestie was quite persistent; that was good.
“Dear, don’t worry anymore. I’ve changed my mind,” she said as she rose from the seat. At that moment, the nurse came over calling her name but she simply smiled at the latter, “Tell the doc, I’ve changed my mind.”
Then she continued to stride out of that section with one hand on her belly, “I’ve realized Laila, that though the father might have been an irresponsible guy, and that this pregnancy is the result of a mistake, the baby is innocent. I can’t harm a life oblivious to the parents’ issues. So, Laila, I will raise the child and be the best mother I can be,”
Hearing this, Laila on the other end burst into tears of happiness, “I’m so glad you changed your mind, honey. Believe me, I-I was really scared. Where are you right now?”
“I’m about heading home. Will update you later,” Aria cut the call and was about to put the phone in her purse when the phone started ringing, the caller ID an unknown number.
“Hello. Yeah, it’s miss Cromwell speaking.” Her smiling face suddenly morphed into that of shock. “What?”
As the call ended, she instantly passed out.
