Episode 21 I'm Waiting for You

1250 Words
Elle felt that life was full of surprises. For example, in the evening before the CET-6 exam, she was unexpectedly dragged by Vivian to go shopping for clothes. Well, even though Elle was the one who first suggested taking a break and not studying before the exam, Vivian didn’t need to react so quickly and immediately grab her to head straight to the clothing store near campus... Mia and Stella were also surprised. After finishing dinner and returning to the dorm, both Elle and Vivian were not there, but their books were still on the table, indicating that they hadn't been going to the library to study. Mia was bored and sent a text message asking Elle where they were. Soon, Elle replied with a text message: "Accompanying Vivian shopping for clothes." Mia was greatly shocked by the response, immediately asking which store it was and dragging Stella to visit. When they arrived at the store and pushed open the door, they coincidentally saw Vivian coming out of the fitting room. Mia and Stella were instantly stunned by the sight. They had never seen Vivian look so dazzling and eye-catching. Her long hair, which was usually tied up, was now let loose, with natural curls at the ends, falling onto her fair shoulders. She wore a knee-length crimson dress with a beautiful V-neck design that revealed her delicate collarbones. The fabric of the dress was thin and clung tightly to her skin, accentuating her slender waist and enticing curves. As she moved, the skirt rippled like waves, while her fair and symmetrical long legs shone brightly, captivating everyone’s attention. She completed her look with a pair of high-heeled crystal sandals, adding a charming touch to her slender ankles. She exuded an indescribable radiance, and her beauty was captivating. The entire store suddenly brightened up because of her presence. Silence filled the store for a while until Elle spotted Mia and Stella and immediately boasted, “How about that? I helped Vivian pick out this outfit. I’ve got great taste, don’t I?” Undoubtedly, she did have great taste, and Mia was about to compliment her when Vivian, while looking in the mirror, turned around and complained dejectedly, “Elle, couldn’t you have helped me find something more modest?” Elle: “...” Mia: “...” Stella: “...” The shop assistants secretly rolled their eyes, thinking, “What’s wrong with this dress? It’s not indecent at all! It’s not my fault that your figure is so attractive and accentuates the curves of the dress!” After a moment of silence, Elle turned around wordlessly and continued searching for clothes, while Mia entered the store and asked Vivian, “What made you decide to go shopping for clothes?” Vivian replied, “Because I noticed that the clothes I bought last year were pilling >o Mia was speechless but teased, “You don’t need to go out and buy clothes now. We have an exam tomorrow.” “Um...” Vivian was at a loss for words. She didn’t want to tell anyone about meeting Nathan yet, so she vaguely responded, “Um... I have an interview tomorrow night!” This was not a lie; it was a crucial interview that could determine her future. Mia was shocked when she heard this. “You’re going to work during the summer vacation? Which place is so crazy to schedule an interview on Saturday night? We won’t finish the exam tomorrow until 5:20 PM.” Vivian felt embarrassed. It seemed like she was the crazy one who scheduled the interview. That afternoon, when Nathan suggested meeting, Vivian’s emotions... How should one put it? It was like suddenly realizing she was hungry and then a bunch of chicken legs fell from the sky. There were feelings of shock, surprise, confusion, and nervousness. She even had wandering thoughts: Was Nathan only meeting her for the video? Is it just an excuse? But that thought was too self-centered, so Vivian quickly pushed it to the back of her mind. The result of all these thoughts flooding her mind was that Vivian froze for a moment when Nathan asked, and half a minute had passed before she answered with a simple “Okay.” Nathan seemed unfazed by her delay and directly sent his contact information after getting a positive response: “My phone number is 13xxxxxxxxx.” Vivian looked at the digits and her heart raced, even more excited than when Nathan suggested meeting up earlier. Nathan’s phone number. Finally, there was some real connection in the real world. Vivian quickly took note of the number. After finishing, she realized that she should also provide her own phone number. However, she didn’t have a phone at the moment. Her phone was stolen last year, and Vivian discovered that life without a phone was surprisingly peaceful and comfortable. As a student, how many things really require a phone? In the dormitory, there were classmates who could be notified about anything. But now, if she didn’t give her phone number, would Nathan think she lacked sincerity? Vivian hesitated and typed, “My phone was stolen, and I haven’t bought a new one yet >o In order to show that she was sincere about meeting, Vivian proactively asked, “Where should we meet? I’m at A University, outside the Fourth Ring Road in the north, and you’re also in City B, right?” Although they had never asked for each other’s detailed information, there were always subtle hints in their conversations. Nathan must have guessed she was in City B, which was why he asked to meet her. “Hmm, I’m here,” Nathan replied nonchalantly. “I’ll come to A University to pick you up. When are you available?” Vivian was shocked by the word “pick up” and her mind went blank. She blurted out, “I’ll be free after I finish my exam tomorrow, anytime after 5:30 PM.” “At 6 o’clock, I’ll wait for you at the East Gate of A University?” “Let’s make it 5:30, so we don’t have to wait for another half an hour.” Nathan seemed familiar with A University, Vivian thought vaguely. Without much consideration, she quickly typed out “5:30” and then paused. Did I seem too eager? Tears... As she felt more embarrassed the more she thought about it, Vivian quickly confirmed the time and place and said, “I’ll call you tomorrow, I have something to do.” Then she hurriedly left, sat in front of her computer, and stared blankly. After a while, she squatted in front of her wardrobe and stared again... ... Elle’s voice broke her thoughts. “Try this 'caring homemaker' type.” Seeing Vivian lost in thought again, Elle impatiently threw the clothes she was holding at her. Really, she lets her daydream and still dares to be picky. Vivian reluctantly took the clothes and walked into the fitting room. Then, she came out a moment later wearing them. Elle nodded approvingly. This time it wasn’t a dress, but a white waist-cinched blouse with mid-length sleeves, paired with a light blue, elegantly printed skirt. The craft skills and cut of the two ordinary pieces of clothing gave a delicate feel when worn by Vivian. The refreshing sky-blue and white colors also tamed Vivian’s innate brightness. To sum it up in a few words, it was more of a "caring homemaker" look.
