Max...
It was early in the morning when Max woke up. He had ended up tossing and turning all night. After Max had collapsed in pain from a near forced shift, the doctor explained to him that it was because he found his mate but she was with someone else and his wolf knew that causing him emotional pain.
Max wiped the sweat off of his cheat realizing he must have been tossing and turning all night. The doctor had suggested last night to sleep and take chase out in the morning, whether he was in the mood or not. So that's just what he did.
After Max had made it to the clearing behind the packhouse he stopped out of his clothes. Chase was reluctant to go, he just wanted to sulk and be alone, but Max insisted and his wolf finally caved.
Max could feel Chases mood lift as soon as they reached the creek. Instead of drinking from the creek, Max thought it would be nice for them to take a swim in the water. After the sweats from last night, Max found the water cool and soothing on his fur.
After they had swum Max decided to lead them back to the house it was time to focus on the funeral and his coronation as Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack of New York City. As tradition, anyone from the pack could challenge him.
There had been talks amongst the wolves before and after my father died about who he would name Alpha after him. It came as a surprise when the firstborn son didn't get named Alpha. Some were shocked and disappointed so he was expecting a fight for his title.
He had only seen his father challenged once and it was not a pretty sight. The fight was evenly matched but the wolf was taunting my father that once he finished him off her see if his wife/mate would want to ride a real wolf. This caused my father to blackout in a rage leaving his challenger headless, literally. It took him a whole 2 minutes to tear the man's head clean off.
Max stepped into the shower and allowed the hot water to soak his aching muscles. That's all Max would need is someone to challenge his title, he would have no other choice to fight till the death. To lose at this time would be a tragedy, especially after he's smelt his mate but did not met her, hold her or mark her yet. Max shook his head as he heard his phone ring. Wrapping a towel around his waist Max made his way to his phone.
"Hey Max, is Dimitri" Dimitri shouted into the phone.
"Hey, how are things going?" Max asked in reply.
"Good I just got off the plane in New York with your boys," Dimitri replied as he heard Trevor in the background.
Max smiled. "So you did find a solution to the rogue problem" Max stated ecstatic that at least something had gone right today.
"We transported the rogues to a holding stall out of state know one knows its location or existence, except me. The guys who run it are all family friends so I thought it would be best in case they tried to escape." Dimitri spoke "Plus I wasn't in the mood to miss your big day especially since you were there on mine, " Dimitri laughed. "I told Trevor not to tell you, I wanted it to be a surprise."
"Whiskey shots, Beer and Old memories tonight, it sounds perfect, " Max spoke. "I smelt her yesterday" Max stated throwing Dimitri off his game.
"Smelt her, what does that mean?" Dimitri asked in confusion. "Oh...." He replied after a few moments when recognition hit in "Her! Mate her? "
Max laughed into the phone "Yes. I don't know where she was but God did it smell heavenly and sweet the best of everything" Max spoke as he sat at the foot of his bed.
"We will be there in about an hour, we can talk more than" Dimitri spoke in hast. Clearly busy at the airport.
"Sure sounds good, just getting ready myself for this afternoon" Max replied.
"See you soon and hey congrats again," Dimitri remarked before hanging up the phone leaving Max to bid thoughts.
Max saw Dimitri briefly before leaving each other, so he could settle into one of the packs guest suits. After having a short meeting with Trevor and Evan about the L.A pack agreements Trevor had gone to oversee Max decided to mind link Mike his lead fighter and pack trainer to meet him in his office.
"Mike we need to have a serious talk" Max started. "With this situation, we need to increase border patrols and we need to start training pack members shifted and none shifted, should the need arise they need to defend themselves or others." Max spoke "as a precaution" Max looked over at Mike and knew very well what he was thinking. "I know what your thinking but we have some idea about what the rogues are up to and we are late to the war that they have been cooking up for centuries"'
"I understand Alpha I can change the shift lengths. Short times and frequent change-outs would allow the wolves to patrol the borders more effectively and efficiently. I can get a schedule ready by tomorrow. Also, I can oversee be Gunners training so people can at least get the basic offense and defensive skills needed."
"Awesome. If you could also work with Mandy for the pups. The kids like watching you guys train and she gushes over how they mimic you guys. Maybe teach them Home Alone skills in case. It would also take a lot of stress from the pack mothers about the situation, or it could increase it. I've been thinking about this a lot lately before this mess happened. Who knows it might come in handy."
"That might be stretching it considering the situation Alpha, but I know why you brought it up. I see them hiding behind the outpost all the time. They think they're sneaky but they're not" Mike laughed.
"Alright we can talk again tomorrow" Max replied causing Mike to raise his brows like Mike knew something he didn't. "What is it, Mike?" Max asked.
"Nothing Alpha" Mike spoke "I will see you at the wake" Mike added before turning to leave. Thinking better Mike stopped and turned to look at Max. , "Actual there is something. There's been talk amongst the younger boys about a challenge to your title as Alpha. I don't think they've got the spine to challenge but I thought I'd best tell you even though I don't think it will happen" Mike spoke.
"Thank you, Mike, you are excused" Max stated as Mike left his office. In all the years they have known each other Max didn't expect Mike to keep anything from him, he wondered what was going on with Mike. He would talk him later but right now he had a funeral to attend.
