Max...
Max was admiring the moon when his cell phone rang. Annoyed Max thought he should let it go to voicemail, however, his ringtone wouldn't stop. Reaching for his phone with a huff Max answered the call. "This better be important" Max barked into the phone.
"Sorry to disturb Alpha, I was just calling to see how you were doing" Trevor replied timidly into the phone.
"Sorry, Trevor!" Max replied instantly regretting lashing out at his childhood friend. "It's been a long day and I don't check the caller ID to see who it was" Max continued to explain himself.
"Don't worry about it!" Trevor replied in an understanding tone causing Max to wonder how his friend can tolerate him, even after all these years. Max could barely tolerate himself some time. "I also have knees" Trevor continued before Max could yet again apologize. "Dimitri is attempting to find a solution to the rogue problem we have. He doesn't want to miss your ceremony but he also doesn't want to leave the compound if the rouge tries to escape" Trevor spoke.
"It's okay, I know where he's coming from, I would do the same thing if roles were reversed" Max stated as a point of fact, not too concerned about the situation. Sometimes duty comes before someones personal preferences.
"He's going to call in the morning to talk with you. He thinks he might have a solution if he could just find a safe place to transport the rogues where no one could find them" Trevor continued. "Also we couldn't get any more information out of them, but Dimitri saw that you left a message with Grandma Sager in Brussells for Maggie hopefully she is available soon because he's about ready to put a bullet in their heads"
Max laughed "I would be too especially since they really have no more use until we can get our hands on Maggie." Max stated. "The funeral and ceremony are happening in the afternoon what time see you guys heading back here?" Max questioned Trevor. The man was an amazing fighter and skilled but sometimes he needed to be reminded of things.
"Actually about that. I canceled the ticket" Trevor replied making Max's eyes widen as he waited for him to continue. "Dimitri is going to let us use his plane and already called the airport for an available landing strip" Trevor further elaborated himself.
"I thought Dimitri said he didn't think he was going to make it," Max asked suspiciously, Dimitri wasn't one to hand out his plane just like that unless he was on it.
"He is because he's hoping he will be on it with us, but I highly doubt it" Trevor spoke. "Also he asked us for some help in the morning with organizing his training and lines in the AM. You know I live the man, so I agreed" Trevor added. "The AM flight we were booked on would have got in the way so he offered his plane and we made a compromise" Trevor laughed.
"Know that sounds like Dimitri" Max stated with a laugh. "How did the renewal agreements go?" Max asked.
"It went off without a high. Dimitri did want to add something to it. We can review it when I'm back." Trevor added.
"Want to run it by me know? I've got nothing else to do except sleep, Chase isn't in the mood for a run even though it's a beautiful night he is sulking for some reason" Max asked in an attempt to keep him distracted.
"Dimitri wanted to see if you'd be open for an exchange program of some sort. Some of his younger pack members are interested in out of state colleges, change of scenery. He wanted to know if we had any available living quarters they could use, so they can attend school and he said you can out them to work" Trevor spoke.
"Tell him yes, sign off on it. I'll work out the details tomorrow about where they can stay. Depending on home many are interested and when there are plenty of rooms available in the main house, " Max spoke.
"Alright I'll sign off on it and hand it in, Dimitri will be happy" Trevor added.
"I've known that man for about as long as I have known you, Next time if something like that comes up in a situation like this just go ahead and sign off on it. I'm a firm believer in higher education, it will be a good experience. We've got some kids here I'll bring it up at the next meeting to see if anyone is interested themselves in partaking. See if he'll sign off on it as well." Max added.
"He already did" Trevor responded in hast.
"Alrighty then. I'm going to head to bed and get some rest. Hurry back! Stay safe. I will see you tomorrow, " Max added.
"See you then, Beta Out!" Trevor replied. Max cracked a smile and was on the verge of laughing out loud.
Max put his phone on the charger and continued to look out the window. What a night. In that instant, Max fell to the floor in excruciating pain. He felt like someone was stabbing a hot poker into his stomach. "What the hell is happening" Max spoke out loud.
One second Max was on the floor in pain. The next he was half shifted. Then it stopped. chase? Are you okay? What the hell was that? Max attempted to ask his wolf but all he got was a whimper in reply.
Max reached for his phone and called the pack doctor. When the doctor arrived she could see anything physically wrong with them.
"What happened today?" The Doctor asked.
"Nothing" Max replied oblivious to what could have caused this type of reaction.
"Have you shifted lately?" The Doctor asked him with sympathy in her voice.
"Earlier today we went to the creek to take a break after I called the Italian pack to inquire about Dads visit" Max replied.
"What else?" The doctor asked.
"Nothing I went to the club to finish it up for Friday, " Max continued and then stopped dead in his tracks"
"What is it?" She asked concerned.
"I smelt my mate today" Max replied.
"Ah! I see. Let's get you into bed" She responded.
"Do you know what's wrong with me?" Max asked concerned.
"Yes I do and you're not going to like my answer. I've only seen this happen to one other person in my line of work. It was your father, " the Doctor replied to Max, 's confusion.
"What is it?" Max asked on the verge of flipping out.
"Your Mate, she is having intimate relations with someone other than yourself. Your wolf smelled her today but could not see her, but he is more with her than you at this point and he can feel it" She spoke with caution. "It's best to let your wolf rest. You will need to let him out in the morning" she continued while tucking Max in. If it happens again, my advice go for a run even if he doesn't want to.
Max nodded confused and hurt, but what could he do he hasn't even get her yet. The Doctor turned out his lights and in an instant, Max was pulled into blackness.
