Jennifer...          Jennifer hadn't been home to pack territory since she when to community college out of state right out of high school. Her mother had thought it would be the best opportunity to get a proper education. One that the nearby wolves only college could give her. Her mother only wanted what was best for her and she had agreed instantly. Both of her parents attending community college and university and had many more opportunities than they would have at a pack college or university.       Jennifer's mother had gone to university and obtained a Ph.D. Medical degree. Her father obtained a Masters in Business and a Degree in Finances. Jennifer had always excelled at Math and decided on community college to get an accounting degree with a minor in fashion and photography. It was here that Jennifer met Eva and they have been friends ever since.       As her thought traveled to Eva, she decided to send a text message to Eva to tell her that she had just landed. Sliding the phone into her purse Jennifer hauled her luggage and hailed a cab. After directing the driver to the outskirts of New York City she decided to let her Mother know she was on her way to the compound.        After three rings her mother finally picked up her phone. "Hey! Sweetie, how was your flight?" Her mother enthusiastically questioned her.        Jennifer smiled. It has been a while since she had seen her mother and Jennifer was excited to be home. "It was good. We hit some turbulence midway but other than that the flight was a breeze" Jennifer replied as she stared out at the city disappearing along the highway as they drove closer to home.       "How was your trip back home" her mother spoke. Jennifer could hear her name being called over the pack hospitals overhead. "I'm sorry Jennifer I'm being called into the delivery room. We are about to have a new addition to the pack. Keep your fingers crossed for us that the birthing goes well." She added.       "I will Mom. Good luck. Love you" Jennifer replied.       "Thanks. Love you too" her mother responded before hanging up the call leaving Jennifer alone to her thoughts. They were about another twenty minutes away from the driveway that would lead them onto the compound. From there, the driveway itself would be another 30-minute drive up to the main compound.        Jennifer's mother had acquired a quaint two-story three-bedroom house closer to the medical center, which was more equipped than most hospitals but not nearly as big. Their pack wasn't large, but it wasn't small either. 100 pack members lived on or near the main house, which was used for pack gatherings and meetings. The house had about 35 bedrooms, a kitchen, two sitting rooms, the Alpha's office, a ballroom for entertainment and an amazing garden in the back.        Houses linked the man compound about 30 or 40 Jennifer lost count some time ago as the pack seemed to expand with mated wolves and families. The hospital was located in between the compound and the main road. Throughout the property, other structures and houses existed each holding a specific title or purpose. Training, recreation, kids park, massive garden for the community and kitchen, lookouts, scouts, etc.         The cab driver finally made it to the driveway and turned on for the thirty-minute drive that would lead her to home sweet home. By this point, Jennifer had opened her pack link to confirm it was her driving up to the wolves running the perimeter. Jennifer peered out of the car and caught a quick glance at a grey wolf with piercing eyes staring back at her.       Jennifer had never seemed this wolf before. She would have remembered piercing eyes like that. In light of recent rogue attacks, Jennifer thought it best to be careful instead of paying the price later for a careless mistake.        She had made a mistake like that when she was younger. Being of both wolf and kitsune descent, it seemed to give her eyes like a hawk, both a blessing and a curse especially when you are just a small child. That mistake had almost cost her, her mother, and had gotten 5 pack members killed in an ambush.         Mike are you there? Jennifer asked through pack link once she had made sure that the link was closed to everyone else. Mike was one of the highest-ranking fighters and was one of the most loyal people she had ever met.        Hey Jennifer. I'm glad your back we could use some extra hands around here in the mud. Mike teased her. Memories flashed from Mikes mind to hers of her at a tween er attempting to hunt and scout with the big wolves and walking out of the bush covered in mud at her attempt of trying to beat the best.       Jennifer chuckled to herself. One day Mike, One day I will beat you at your own game and it will be you walking out of the bush covered in mud. Jennifer chuckled to herself at her come back, causing the can driver to look on the rear-view mirror to see what she was laughing at.         Jennifer had spent most of her adolescent and adult life covering up her packs mind link through simple mundane things, people can explain to themselves so they don't think they or someone else is crazy. Jennifer still had her phone in her pocket so she opened up a text message she received earlier.       After the cab driver returned his eyes to the road Jennifer continued to link with Mike. I don't want to be brass but I seen a grey wolf near the property line. I haven't seen him before. Is he one of ours? Or do we have a rogue lingering the outskirts?       The link was quiet for a bit, making Jennifer jump to attention. Jennifer was just about to link with her mother to warn her there was a rogue on the property when mike jumped in her ear.       No, Jennifer, he's not a rogue. He's one of ours. Remember Donna and Rosa's adoptive son. The one they adopted when the Keller's were killed after a run-in with a rogue 10 years ago. Mike began.       Yes, Kenny. I remember him, Jennifer replied. How could she forget the boy she had crushed on for years? He was only a year older than her. The whole pack thought he didn't inherit the gene from his parents for some reason that he was just a carrier.       Well, the year you left he got into a fight with a man downtown and ended up killing the man. He shifted shortly after. Mike continued completely oblivious to what her exact thoughts were about the boy. That was something else she had mastered at an early age. How to turn on and off her pack link.      Okay thanks for the heads up, Mike. I'll see you in a bit. For a proper welcome home greeting old man! Causing mike to laugh in response and, Jennifer to smile.       Jennifer turned of her link as her thoughts trailed back to the boy she used to know. He had a beautiful wolf. No wonder people didn't think he had inherited a wolf he was of a specific descent. With so many stories and legends surrounding our people there are some grains of truth in every type of story.        There are only a few wolves with our pack who are trigger wolves. These are people who carry the gene but only merge when they have taken a life. It's such a rare thing now a day's. Most wolves her either shift on their 16 or 18th birthdays regardless of a trigger or not.       Like him, Jennifer was a rare case she had two other forms. When she had turned 12 she had met her kitsune a black fox and on her 18th birthday, she met her wolf a white beauty with a black-tipped tail and orange paws. Jennifer reached for her headphones and decided to drown the silence of the last 15 minutes to the house with some soft jazz music.
