Eva...
It was already dark outside when Eva found herself staring at the clock. Jenifer would be busy with family. She could always text her but she was in the mood for something a little more meaningful than a phone conversation with an old friend over the phone. Walking to her fridge Eva removed a bottle of Red Wine from the fridge and poured herself a healthy glass. After she allowed the wine to soothe her throat and warm her face Eva reached into her purse and removed the card she had acquired in the grocery store.
Eva was hoping for a nice night. Drinks and company and maybe some casually heated s*x with a stranger. Eva grabbed her phone, glass, and card and walked down the length of the backyard admiring the beautiful trees that hugged the pathway likens mother caressing her young in a sweet embrace.
Eva was about to dial the number to see where the night would lead her but in a moment of weakness, she placed the card underneath her phone to soak in the breeze and drink more wine. Eva wasn't normally shy when it came to men but she had a feeling that a simple situation could turn into something a little messier than she could handle at the moment.
As a little girl, Eva used to love those stories about prince charming that would ride in on a horse and save the girl and live happily ever after, however, as Eva grew older she realized she was better equipped to deal with one night stands and meaningless relationships that never went anywhere.
The Moon was full tonight and looked almost magical. Eva opened her messages and skimmed over the one she had received from Jennifer. Hitting the reply button she responded to the message. As if on instinct Jennifer replied that she would see her Saturday and to send her the address. After responding they wished each other a good night. The night was calming and alluring if she didn't think any better she thought the moon was somehow inviting here to dance among the stars and wonder in her guiding light.
Choking the moment up as to much wine she called the man's number. After three rings he picked up the phone. "Hey!" He spoke into the phone.
Eva could feel her face become flush from embarrassment. What was she doing calling a man she must meet today in a grocery store at this time of night. "Hey! Dominic Stern" Eva replied to his greeting while twisting his business card in her hand. "It's Eva you gave me your card today in the grocery store" she continued before pausing from embarrassment.
"Well hello. I wasn't expecting to hear from you so soon" Dominic replied. "I'm glad you called" He spoke before the line went silent for a few moments. "What are you up to this fine evening?" Dominic asked with genuine interest.
"Just sitting in my backyard with a glass of wine and starting up at the moon" Eva replied.
Dominic smiled as he turned in his office chair to stare out his office window "Aww, yes she is a beauty tonight" Dominic replied.
Feeling best wash over her Eva tried to think of something to say but was left without words. This had been a mistake, what was she thinking. Eva you should just stick to bar encounters, they work out best for all parties and don't leave you a girly mess of emotions. Eva thought to herself.
"Well," Dominic started "What can I do for you this fine evening?" Dominic asked.
"I was just calling to see how you were doing after I rammed you in the store. Making sure there was no immediate damage to any of you extremities" Eva responded with a quick one-liner, in hopes of removing any awkwardness from this conversation.
Dominic laughed into the phone. "No there was no damage, however, it's still too early to tell" Dominic began, "I think it will be better addressed over some late night dinner or early morning breakfast"
Eva choked on a sip of her wine. "Well if you're interested I have a bottle of wine on ice and some stuff we could throw together if your interested" Eva replied completely unsure of what she was doing.
Dominic smiled "Actually it sounds perfect. I'm just finishing up at the office but if you send me your address I can head there when I'm done here" Dominic spoke while waiting for Eva's response.
"Sure it's in Upper West Side Manhattan" Eva paused "that not too far out of the way is it?" Eva continued quickly, probably giving Dominic an opportunity to opt-out because she knew this was a bad idea.
"No, it's not. My office is near Manhattan Island. Text me the address and I'll let you know when I'm heading your way" Dominic replied.
"Sounds good. You don't have any allergies?" Eva responded already thinking about something to take out for them.
"No, I'm just not a huge fan of pork or shellfish but will eat both regardless" Dominic responded.
"Okay sounds good" Eva replied.
"I'll see you in a bit" Dominic responded.
"Sounds good" Eva spoked before ending the call. Eva opened up her text messages and sent Dominic her address before making the brash decision to create a new contact in her phone directory for him. Dominic Stern Grocery Babe. Eva chuckled at herself. Before erasing the last two words before adding him. The last Eva needed was him to see how she added him to her contact list.
