Sergeant Dave Mills, helped by Police Constable Tom Bennett, worked methodically, covering the whole house. There was very little to show how Dora Bream spent her time at home. Next to her bed, there was a book entitled ‘Loves & Studs’, with a sheet of paper as a bookmark. Tom flicked through it and thought it was a bit racy for a seventy-year-old churchgoer. The folded piece of paper was a receipt for a double room in a hotel in Brighton, dated nine years ago. He needed to find out exactly when her husband had died.
