Chapter 24 Pounding fatigue radiated through Maggie’s skull. Sleep. Nothing in any world the Siren had ever heard of could possibly be as wonderful as sleep. Maggie swayed on her feet as she made another trip from the front room of the sanctuary to the library. A boy only a few years younger than her walked two steps behind, his feet scuffing against the floor. Ask him his name. But after name came family name, and then came the horrible question―were there any relatives left alive? The sun had climbed high in the sky, but still they had more waiting on the streets. Standing in line to have their lineage checked. Those with no family would be assigned a bed.
