The breeze kissed her shoulders as she ran through the trees. She tipped her head back and laughed. Even as the bright joyous sound escaped her, she saw the great stone buried in the mountainside. A dark opening cut into the boulder, leading to the tunnels beyond. Her feet carried her toward the tunnel even as her heart raced, telling her to run away. “Come on.” The boy reached for her hand. “Just come a little closer.” “No.” Maggie batted his hand away, fleeing for the safety of the trees. “It’ll be fine,” the boy called. “You just have to come a little closer.” The boy didn’t scream as the ground beneath him cracked and crumbled.
