Chapter 12I unlocked the door to my apartment and let myself in. It was dim, the air warm and close from having been shut up for all this time. I dropped my carry-on next to the alcove that held the washer/dryer combination, put my laptop on the desk, and went to raise the blinds and open the windows. A soft May breeze blew in and began to chase away the stuffiness. I went into the bathroom, stripped and took a shower, then wrapped a towel around my waist and emptied my carry-on into the washing machine.
