Chapter 6

Adith could never stand anymore, he was boiling with anger, his eyes were red, he combed his silky hair backwards with his long fingers and shut the door behind him.

The next day Adith got ready for work, he was feeling low, he wanted to have a look at his kids but Carys words pierced through his heart like a blade tearing it apart, he silently locked his door and was walking towards the elevator. He heard Dhruv squeal “Yay! Mommy, Daddy is coming home tonight”. Adith’s eyes went wide, who the hell is the father of my kids, what is going on, he wants to confront Carys and know everything immediately, when he turned around, he saw the kids jumping out of joy, Carys was locking the door and picked up all the bags, while the kids were on the phone with another man whom they called daddy. Adith was hurt but he didn’t want to spoil the kid’s happiness, he quietly entered into the elevator, when he was about to press the close button, the kids and Carys came running in. The bubbly kids greeted him, “Hi Uncle Adith”, Adith smiled at the kids and replied “Hi”, he felt sad, he wanted to hug them and take them away, he didn’t like his kids calling someone else as Dad, Thara saw through him and asked, Uncle you seem to be sad, what happened?

Adith composed himself, ruffled her hair and said, nothing baby, I have a surgery, was thinking about it.

“Don’t worry uncle, I’ll pray for you so that your patient will be fine, you can fix him, cheer up uncle, sad face doesn’t suit you”

Adith gave a slight laugh, you speak just like your Mom, as my baby said, I am not sad anymore.

The elevator reached the ground floor, all the four stepped out, Adith said “Thara and Dhruv , how about a ride with me today?”

Carys got angry , she stared at him, Adith didn’t mind, come on babies, hop into my SUV”

Thara blinked her big grey eyes and asked “shall we mommy”?

Adith glanced at Carys, she said “I'll be coming in my car, you’ll can join uncle, but only today, you shouldn’t disturb him often”

“Sure mommy, thank you” they both hopped into Adith’s SUV”

Adith fixed the seat belt for the kids and hopped into the driver’s seat. Dhruv observed the classic interiors and exclaimed, uncle your SUV is cool!!.

Adith’s smiled and said “thank you! “and turned on the music, ‘my dream came true by Glenn Travis' was playing, Dhruv suddenly asked, uncle do you have kids?

Adith was taken a back, he wanted to say yes but he replied

“No, but why did you ask” Adith said.

“ Just curious, our dad always sings this for us at bedtime”.

Adith felt bitter, “Oh, is it, who is your Dad”?

Thara enthusiastically replied “ Our Daddy will be coming home tonight, we'll introduce him to you”

“You guys look so happy, do you like your daddy so much?” asked Adith

“Yeah we love him” both replied in unison

Adith felt sad, he wanted to scream out that he is their dad and will always be there for them but it’s not easy, he felt depressed.

When the three reached the hospital, Adith sent them to the nursery, he hugged and kissed his children, they were soft and warm, they kissed him back, the children felt connected to Adith, they couldn’t leave him easily, soon their baby sitter asked them to get seated.

Adith waved them good bye and left, he had an ambivalent feeling, he was proud that he is the father of the lovely twins but sad that they acknowledged some one else as their father, he actually wants to be in every part of their lives, Carys remembered that, he was the one who suggested the names “Dhruv and Thara” which means stars, and she didn’t think of changing the names. The times they were together were sweetest memories where he could only cherish.

While walking towards the elevator Carys joined him, they were silent till the elevators reached the 10th floor, both of them stepped out and walked towards their lounge, Carys suddenly pulled Adith into the resident's lounge, no one was around, other residents were already on duty.

Carys looked into Adith’s dark eyes and said, “ Adith, calm down, all of us have personal problems but they should not be a hindrance for your career, its because of your hard work and dedication you are here now, you are considered as one of the best cardiovascular surgeon in Florida, we'll sort out things later at night, now go ahead and concentrate on the surgery.”

Adith took a deep breath and nodded “hmmm” and left without looking back. He muttered to him self that its not the right to me to think of everything that happened last night and got ready for the surgery.
