Officer Kate Morgan stepped into the Chief of Police’s office. It was only the second time she had ever been called up to the Chief’s sanctuary, the first being after her narrow escape from Marlow. Not an escape, she reminded herself. Jessica and Allison had saved her.
“You wanted to see me, Chief?” she asked.
“Close the door,” he responded quickly, a file spread out on the desk before him.
Kate closed the door and moved to stand across the desk from him. Chief Robinson was everything that you did not expect in a Chief of Police. He was round and soft, with a body more suited to putting all-you-can-eat buffets to the test than police work.
