Her Saviour

Chapter 27: Back to where he should be.

Aki had stayed without hearing any information about Rin for five years now. He was worried about how Rin was doing. However, his worry was not at a grave level that it would be considered a negative emotion. He stepped out of his dwelling. Five years was not a large number of years for someone who lives for thousands of years. He levitated towards the main hall where the higher angels were gathered.

Five years was not much for Aki, however, for a human, it would amount to a large amount of time. Anything could happen during that time. He reached the hallway that led to the room. Aki had been told to report to the main hall before he left for the human realm. As soon as he got there, the door to the hall was closed by the guards.

The highest angel present in the hall spoke, “Aki, guardian angel of the human Rin. Take a seat.”

Aki bowed in front of him and sat down on the chair. The chair was on the lower level and was facing the angels who were seated on the higher level. Aki did not dare lift his head up. He waited until one of the higher angels spoke.

Finally, the angel who had the position of the second highest angel spoke, “It has been five years since you were ordered to remain in the heaven after you started developing to feel negative emotions. In these five years, we are confident that you have built your immunity to negative emotions again and this time there is no chance for you to feel those again. Now you are ordered to go back to the human realm and fulfill your duty to look after the human. You may leave.”

Aki stood up and bowed in front of them again. He then slowly left the hall. He left for the entrance of the heaven. He was excited to see Rin again. He slowly descended down to the human realm. As soon as he was within the realm, he prayed in his mind to the Heaven to show the path to Rin. After he prayed, he opened his eyes. He then saw a red string forming on his little finger. The red string will lead him to Rin and he would find the other end on Rin’s little finger. However, she would not be able to see it.

Aki flapped his magnificent creamy white wings and flew down following the red string. Aki was expecting that the string would lead to Rin’s house. However, the string led him to a new place. A place that he had never traveled with Rin before. He reached the place where Rin was. From the sky, he could make out a human and a car there. He slowly descended. The moment he reached near the ground, he could not believe what he was seeing. Rin was there. Leaning on the car. She had a cigarette in her hand. Aki watched her as she inhaled the dangerous object made by the humans. However, he did not do anything.

Aki shook his head and thought, “It is incorrect to say that I am not doing anything. It is that I cannot do anything about it directly. It might be my fault that she resorted to this. Due to my absence, I could not stop her from picking up this bad habit.”

Aki turned around to observe the environment. Rin was the only one here in this place. This would mean that Rin learned how to drive. Aki was proud and a little overwhelmed at the same time. It would mean that in the past five years Rin had learned and done a lot of things and he was not there watching over her.

As he continued staying near her, he noticed that Rin had lost the charm from her which she used to carry around in the past. He also noticed that she was not smiling. In the past, Rin used to smile even when she was alone. Aki could feel the drastic changes as more time passed by.

Aki was levitating near her. Rin was looking at her phone and she seemed to be worried. Aki could still tell that something was bothering Rin. She looked anxious. Aki watched as she hastily took out a cigarette and light it. Aki was worried about what was bothering her.

He continued watching her being anxious until it became dark. Aki would stay with her no matter what but he hoped that she decided to go home. He was worried about whether she was eating on time. He noticed that Rin looked so thin and frail like she was going to break anytime.

As soon as he hoped that she would start going home, she opened the car door and got inside. She started the car and started driving. Aki also starting flying behind the car. When they finally reached home, Aki felt that it was different from before. It was the same house that Rin's family lived in in the past, however, somehow the environment gave him a different vibe.

He followed Rin into the house and into her bedroom. She was starting to take her clothes off, so Aki turned around and waited. He turned around when he heard the sound of a plastic being crumpled. When he turned around, he saw that it was not a plastic but a medicine sheet. He watched as Rin eat that medicine. He slowly floated towards that medicine and saw that it was a sleeping pill. This, he noted in his mind, was another drastic change that had occurred.

Rin still looked worried and anxious. Aki watched as she got into her bed. Aki floated towards the space on the bed beside her and sat there. Rin closed her eyes and fell asleep in around ten minutes.

She looked peaceful. After making sure that she was asleep, Aki slowly put his hand on her hand. He started humming the lullaby that her mother used to sing for Rin every night. He hummed the similar tune that he had listened to more than a thousand times. With the lullaby, Aki channeled his energy from within his body to flow into Rin. It was to heal the damage her lungs had sustained from smoking. It was also to calm her soul. This one would not work as quickly as with the lungs. It would take time. Besides, Aki was ready to devote all the time he had as an angel to this. He watched as Rin started to breathe better and smile.

Aki smiled and whispered, “Yes dear, please smile. You do not know what your smile can do. It brightens my life.”

Aki was glad that he was back near Rin. He was going to protect this smile no matter what. He had made a mistake and already spent five years away from her. 

He whispered again, "I am sorry that I left you alone for these past five years. I will never leave you alone again. I will help you go through whatever is coming to your life. I promise I will save you no matter what."

As soon as he promised, a light blue line appeared around his and Rin's wrist. It was a symbol of the promise. However, just like the red string, Rin would not be able to see it.
