"Like for real yeah, shocker!! That's the word. Mikey??" I bulged my eyes out.
"Yeah, he's so sweet" Hilda said dreamily. I eyed her, she caught me and then she began to gush out laughing very hard.
"Are you jealous??" She nudged at me laos. She was laying across with her head on my fresh laps as I sat up with my head hanging at the edge of the couch. My slende legs were stretched out crossed on the center table.
"No, why would I be? I can't believe Mikey slayed me on this. Like, he didn't even let me know he was going to propose to you."
"I'm sorry on his behalf, he's the type. He didn't even telling he was traveling to Africa to see his family for Christmas" she had an awkward smile on.
"Really?-" I paused, the door knob twisted side ways, left, right, and left again and then the door pushed open.
"Hello girls!" Kelvin greeted as he stepped in. Taking off his sneakers, he walked over to join us on the couch.
"Easy!!" Hilda roared pissed, "Why did you have to drop like a dead body?"
"Huh?" He ignored her and continued to rest on the chair, closing his eyes.
"You stink, go shower" I had to say this, he was worked night shift as a barman in one top clubs in the city and was now oozing of alcohol, smoke and all manners off awful things he offered. The stench, I could not take it anymore.
He did not make a move to leave.
"What did I miss? You guys were saying…" he sat up.
"Mikey proposed to Hilda " I blurted out.
"He what???"
"Yeah, he did" Hilda said smiling as she waved her hands in the air showing off her engagement ring.
"And you agreed?" Kelvin said out of the blue. I paused to look at him, he was no longer smiling.
"You have to get going…" I used my hands to push him off the c-shaped couch to the floor. He didn't see it coming.
"Ouch!" He eyed me, picked up his bag which he left laying on the floor and stormed into his room.
"Motherfucker," I cussed.
"What's up with him?" Hilda asked, she twitched her eyes.
"Leave that sad man" I said dismissing his topic.
"So how?? Tell me" I said eager to know how he proposed.
She began to narrate. She said Mike had arrived at the club earlier than usual. He'd called her to join him at the club that Lilly wanted to see her.
She'd been stunned cause her working hours were from 11:00 pm to 2:00 am in the morning. Why was Lilly calling her up by 5:00 pm? Anyways, she hurriedly took her bath and with lightening speed, she was at Lilly's office.
Getting there, she knocked at the door but nobody answered. The door creaked open itself and she went in, anyhow. Lilly must have left the door open, she says, she thought.
The room was dark and she wondered why Lilly if all people would leave her office wife open.
"Yeah, it's crazy, Lilly first off would never leave her office open" I added, and she continued to tell her story.
So she Saud she had decided to switch on the lights herself, she reached out for the switched and then the light went on.
The room was decorated with ribbons, balloons, and all sought of fancy stuff. She was amiss, today was not her birthday. Who did this and what in the world? She explained to me, trying to make me imagine how surprised she was.
Then came down a board, just in front of Lilly's desk with the inscription:
'WILL YOU MADRY ME?'
Hilda staggered, shd was not even expecting something like this. Not in this era if her life, not in the next months or years.
Mike popped his head out of the curtain where he'd been hiding.
He knelt down before her with the navy blue ring case. He opened it, a silver ring with little stone was sitting pretty, just the type she had talked about some years ago when they'd just started dating. She had showed him the ring playfully on her phone from an i********: post. This f*****g ring cost a million.
"The f**k?? Mikey f*****g bought you vvs? That's mad!!" I burst out, placing both palms to my mouth.
Lilly stepped out from behind her shelve, she'd been present all along.
"That sly b***h!" I laughed at the fact Lilly had been part of the plot, she does not look like someone who'd be part of a good thing. I scoffed at that thought, brushing away.
"And that was it" she concluded, slamming her hands on her lap.
"Wow, wow, woahh! Mikey f*****g got you a vvs"
"Shhh…" Hilda nugded me, rolig her eyes.
"I told you he's an African Prince," she added with a bit of pride.
*Then why does he pole dance for a living?" I asked.
"He says he'd always loved to pole dance, he's father never like it. He enjoyed watching people pole dance on Tv and that's how he's love for it became strong and boom! When they flew him out of the country to America here, he had so much freedom that he decided to chase his dream-"
"To pole dance??" I asked rhetorically.
"Yeah, he works a regular job, but that's online. His into web designing and some other stuff" Hilda explained.
"Why am I just getting to know this much about Mike?" I asked Hilda with a raised brow. He winced.
"I see how you get detached each time I talked about him, I know you didn't like the idea of both of us being together and your general dislike for his gender" she shrugged.
"Yeah yeah, he's good. Congratulations girl. You'll be off the market soon. I can't wait to go shopping for baby fits" I teaed her. She rolled her eyes.
"Oh please… Less I forget, how did your fling go? You sly b***h, speak up.
I smiled at Hilda, the type of, I-am-in-trouble kinda smile.
"Oh no, you didn't do something stupid?" She got off my Lap, sat up and then looked at me straight in the eyes.
In seconds I narrated my ordeal to her.
"You f*****g stole his roley'?" I nodded affirmative.
"His money" she began to list everything using her fingers to number it.
"Better watch out for N.Y.PD.!" She slammed me laughing to herself.
