CHAPTER 15

944 Words
TRISHA'S POV As I walked away from there, I released a breath I didn't know I was holding. I hadn't expected the confrontation with the Carter family to happen now. But who cares though? They were my molesters for the years I had lived with Philip. Even now, there was still no atom of guilt in their eyes. I am so going to make their lives miserable for those years they hurt me. Getting to where Grandpa Carter was, I took my seat. I really wanted to go back home to the only one that had always given me comfort these past years. “Are you okay?”Grandpa Carter asked as he had bade goodbye to some of the investors he was chatting with. “Yes Grandpa. I just want to go home. I'm exhausted,” I nodded my head as I released a sigh of tiredness. “Sure you can. The party is almost over. The reason for holding the party has already been achieved. People will know to not mess with you anymore,”he said in a low tone as he scanned his eyes to look at the people in the hall. He drew his head closer to me, as if trying to gossip, “Did you see them?”he asked in amusement. “Who?”I asked with a raised eyebrow, pretending to not know what he was talking about. And then he released a hearty laughter as he had seen through my act. “Alright, let's go home.” He stood up and held my hands and I followed slowly side by side with him. The daggers being shot at me by Lola and Becky didn't go unnoticed by me as they had already found their way back to the hall. Not wanting to give them any impression that they could hurt me anymore, I lifted up my left hand and gave them an “F” in the air. Grandpa had insisted on taking me back home to pavilion villa before heading back to the mansion. As we rode back home, I couldn't help but admire the lighting of the beautiful city that held so many bittersweet memories. But something in me seems unsettled. It was as if we were being followed. I guess Grandpa insisting on dropping me home was a good idea. I have nothing to worry about since he was here. As the car pulled in front of my building, we bade each other goodnight, with him, not forgetting to give me a goodnight kiss on the cheek as if I was a baby. I quickly stepped into the house and locked the door, while I watched Grandpa Car driving out through the window. I was about walking upstairs to my room when I saw someone silhouetted in the dark. I had already raised my back to smack the person's head when the light turned on. “JO?” She asked in surprise at my paused reaction. “Oh God!”I laughed as I dropped my hands and fell on the couch. “What are you doing standing there by this time of the night, Anna?” Anna hadn't travelled back after her surprise visit during the time of the accident. She had postponed her going back so that she could stay with me and her ever doting god daughter for a while. I feel so lucky and relaxed having her around. “Oh! I couldn't sleep and besides I was waiting for you to come and spill the hot gist of what happened at the party,”she japed softly as she disappeared into the kitchen and out in a few minutes. “Come on spill,”she said as she handed me a coffee. “What a gossip,”I muttered as I laughed at her expression. I told her everything about the party, how nervous I felt at first, then I told her about my encounter with the women of the Carter family but purposely skipping the part where Becky had held my neck against the walls. As gentle as Anna seems, she was calm before the storm. I didn't want her to go looking for Becky and causing a scene. “I really missed a lot. I would have paid anything in the world to see the horrid expression on their faces when they saw you,”she said In a grim voice. I had pleaded with Anna to stay back at home with Philia because I didn't want to bring her to the party and I definitely didn't want her to meet the rest of the Carter family. “But JO,don't you think it's strange that Lola didn't tell Philip's Mom and Aunt about you or Philia?”Anna asked. This was the same question that had been on my mind the entire night. “Please be careful. But not to worry you've got Old Carter, me and Bro Caleb. You've got nothing to fear,”she said as she smiled at me. “Did he come?” I shook my head as I knew who she was asking about. Even if I could pretend in front of everyone that Philip didn't stir any emotions in me anymore, I couldn't pretend in front of Anna. Just then, we heard the blaring noise of the alarm. We snapped our head at the door, wondering who it was at this time of the night. Goosebumps creeped all over my skin as I thought of the worst possible thing that could happen. Anna slowly peeped through the window as she turned back at me with her eyes wide in surprise. “It's Philip.”
