CHAPTER 6
PHILIP'S POV
Confusion coursed through my veins as my eyes were still fixed on the little girl who was staring at me with confusion visible on her pretty face.
How is this even possible? Was I too concerned about Trisha's return to have me hallucinating now? I tried to shake my head, hoping it was just my imagination that was running wild.
I was still trying to recollect my thoughts when the little girl's voice interrupted them.
“Mummy, why does this uncle look so much like me?”She asked, as she tapped Trisha on the shoulder with her other hand pointing directly at me.
Immediately, She snapped her head towards me. As she stood up, different emotions flashed through her eyes. carrying the little girl in her arms, she was about walking away when I held her back with my hands shaking.
“What's going on Trisha? Why does this little girl look so much like me? She even called you mummy,” I was at the verge of losing it.
She recoiled with disgust as she gazed on my hands that held her back. I felt a jab at my chest as I watched the expression on her face. With her eyes staring back at mine, she forcefully shoved my hands off her.
“What do you really think you're doing, Mr Philip? You've got no right to ask me any question. Stay away from me!”She spat angrily as she walked away, pushing me to the side.
I staggered as I rested on the door of the elevator. I couldn't even move as I was still in shock of what I just saw. Regaining my consciousness, I turned and followed after her at a fast pace, wanting to stop her, wanting to know how.
She started the car and sped off before I could get to the car park. Staring at her car, many questions filled my head.
Is she married to another man all these years? But if so the little girl wouldn't look so much like me. Was she pregnant before she disappeared 5 years ago? She didn't show any sign of pregnancy back then.
Shoving my hands through my hair defeatedly, I turned and started walking back with heavy steps to the one who had the answer to all my questions.
“Grandpa,”I shouted angrily as I badged into his office, forgetting the courtesy of even knocking. The employees that were with him scurried out with their heads bowed as they could feel the wrath and anger eluding within me.
“I've got work to do, little boy. You can just keep intimidating these workers whenever you are upset,”said Grandpa Carter nonchalantly.
I stared at the Old man who knew so much about the dilemma I was in and was still acting oblivious.
“Damn it! What's going on Grandpa? How can you keep so much away from me? You knew about this all along and you're just acting as if it's normal?”I raged angrily at the old man who held a mocking smile on his lips as he stared at me.
“What are you on about boy? I thought you've gone home already, so why are you still here going back and forth and spewing nonsense?”he said, not even bothering to spare a glance at me.
“Nonsense? You call it nonsense? I just saw you announcing the woman I've searched for,for 5 years as the CEO of the company and you call it Nonse—”
“Watch your tone boy! The company is mine and I can do whatever I please with it. And besides, you've got the same share as her so technically it's as much yours as it is her’s.” He said with anger with a word of finalty on his tone.
Is he trying to act oblivious or was he just trying to play with my damn mind. He knows I do not care one bit what he does with his company.I was talking about Trisha's sudden appearance not the position she just got. I just saw a little splitting image of myself! Realizing I couldn't get any meaningful thing from him by being angry, I decided to use the Grandson card.
Walking to where he was, I pulled a chair and sat down. Staring deep into his eyes, he averted his gaze not wanting to look at me.
“Grandpa, you knew I've been looking for her all these years and yet you didn't even bother telling me about her,”I said with my tone as calm as possible.
“Why do you care? You divorced her, remember? So you shouldn't be concerned about anything that has to do with her, Philip.”
Exhaling loudly, I decided to ask him about the little kid.
“Is Trisha married?” A sharp pain pierced my chest as I asked the question, something within me was hoping it was a “NO.”
“That's none of your business.” I watched him with a bitter expression as he scrolled through the papers in his hands. He was still adamant on letting me know anything about Trisha.
Losing my cool, I banged the table as I shoved the file from his hands.
“You're really not going to tell me anything? I just saw a little child that looks so much like me! Was Trisha pregnant before she left the house? Is that little girl mine?Where had she been all these years? Answer my questions!I'm losing my damn mind,”I huffed as I choked with anger.
“I want to be very clear with you boy, stay away from Trisha, away from the little girl and away from their lives. Do not bother her as you would be seeing her almost everyday of your life from now on. She isn't anything to you anymore. Do you understand?” Grandpa Carter roared at me with fire visible in his eyes.
“How can I stay away from Trisha? I've got so many ques–
My words were shortened when I heard an annoying voice that had always made my skin crawl.
“Did you say Trisha?”
Turning my gaze to her, “Lola,What the f**k are you doing here?”
