chapter 2
I give him a very confused look as I didn't know this was planned. Before I could even answer him the yard lit up with strobe lights and the DJ started playing Get The Party Started by Pink. I hear my family clapping and roars of congratulations.
"Have fun darling, it's your last night here with us let's go dance it out." my mom says nudging me on my shoulder.
I fought through the tiredness to let myself loose one last night. It was so sweet of my family to surprise me with this, I wasn't going to let my tiredness get in the way. I walked up the stairs leading to the patio where the DJ was set up as my aunt Callie dragged me where everyone was already dancing and drinking.
" Wow kid, it only seems like yesterday you were just graduating kindergarten, man time really does fly by." she says.
" It sure does aunt Callie, It sure does." I reply.
Thankfully my uncle Jason decides to cut in and steal me away from the dance floor. He isn't much for the party life so I was glad to see he came.
"You know I only came here for you kid, I wouldn't miss this for the world." he tells me
"I'm so glad you came uncle Jason I know parties were never your style." I say.
"Ha ha he chuckles. I had my fill back in the day, but my age has finally kicked into my body and I can't jiggy like I used to." he laughed.
"But here kiddo, I wanted to give you this for all the hard work you've accomplished, the dreams your chasing, and a little money to help kick off your trip for traveling to find a place you feel you belong in." he says
I start to choke up a little and a single tear escapes my eye and trickles down my face. I open his card and a check falls to the ground. I pick it up and I can not believe my eyes, A twenty thousand dollar check written to me. I started sobbing uncontrollably as he takes me into his embrace. I always knew he saved money all of his life, but I didn't know he had that much saved.
"You deserve it sweetheart, now stop crying. Just promise me one thing." he says looking at me seriously.
"Anything uncle Jason you know that." I reply
"I know most of this money will help on some of the travel expenses apart from what you already have saved up. Just promise me you'll spend a little bit of it having fun while on this journey." he says.
"I promise uncle Jason. Thank you so much but you didn't have to do this." I say.
"I didn't but I wanted to. I want you to find everything in life you've been searching for. now run along and enjoy the rest of your party kiddo I'll miss you, but I'll come visit once you've found your place you'd like to settle down into." he says
"I'll miss you guys so much, but I know I'll see you soon." I say
He hugs me so tightly I almost can't breathe. I enjoy the rest of my night with my family before I go venturing out into the world tomorrow. Once everyone is ready to leave we all say our farewells and my parents and I wave them off.
"Dad, Mom.. thank you so much for tonight, it was a night I didn't know I needed. I love you guys." I tell them.
"My sweet darling, you've worked so hard for this day, you've earned every second of this day and night." Mom says.
"Now run along upstairs and get you some rest honey, Before I change my mind and shrink you back down to my little girl." Dad says chuckling.
"Sir yes sir!" I joke back with my dad.
After a long much needed shower I get dressed and head into my bedroom. I sit on my bed and look around my room at my light pink walls they are filled with family portraits of our annual camping trips. im going to miss my family so much, but this small town has never held up to my dreams. I lay back in bed and start checking my list of things off that I need to bring with me in my head. I really hope I don't forget anything behind I think to myself as sleep takes over.
