Chapter five - Rumors

Chloe's POV:

It has passed a week already since we started school and people are still the same. Why it's so important today what other people are doing? I mean don't they have more important things to do. At least I don't care about them. I have other things in my head, which keep me occupied. Ricky and Lindsay are still the golden couple, which for some reason everyone admires. Well, not Kayla and I. If I could say the same for Katy, but lately I am not sure about that. She looks a bit changed and acts as if she likes them and what they are doing is not that bad. I mean since when telling lies and spreading rumors about others is something good. 

Another school day and another early wake-up. I have to get used to it. If I have to be honest I don't mind it, but I wish that I could sleep for couple more hours. I got up and walked into the bathroom. When I was done, I got dressed and went downstairs for breakfast. Mom has made bacon with eggs. Whatever she cooks, I know that it'll be delicious. I have to admit that Kayla and Katy's moms cook very well. I mean how many slumber parties we have done. These women are used to cooking for us. 

After breakfast, I walked up to school. On my way, I met a boy, who winked at me. I nodded my head and continued walking. I have no idea who is he, but that is better. Luckily, I didn't meet someone else. I walked into school and saw the girls in from of my locker. Am I late? I looked at the time on my phone and it was only 7:40 am. We have whole twenty minutes. Maybe there is another reason why they are here. 

- Good morning. Is there a problem? - I asked

- No, everything is fine. - Kayla answered

- Then why you two are in front of my locker?

- Because we wanted to wait for you here. 

- And to tell you the hot news. - Katy added

- What news? What is going on?

- He is back. 

- Who is he?

- Aaron. The worst boy of them all, also known as the bad boy in town. 

- Ok, why are you telling me this?

- To warn you. Chloe, you have to stay away from him. He is not good for you or whoever it is. He is a big heartbreaker, a user, and doesn't care about people's feelings. 

- I don't even know how he looks. What are the chances to meet him?

- Even a little bit, I agree with Katy. He is everywhere. 

- Thank you for the information girls, but I don't think that I will use it. Both of you know my opinion about boys. This is the last thing for which I want to think. 

- Don't say that we didn't warn you. - Katy said

- Just one question for something that you said. 

- What is it?

 - Why did you say that he is back? I mean back from where. Was he in jail? - I said, a little bit worried

- Some people say yes, others don't believe it. If I have to be honest from all that I have heard, it's very possible that he has been in jail. I meant back because the whole summer nobody knew where is he. Some people thought that might have moved to another town, others that someone beat him up and he was in the hospital. No one knows the reason. Only he and his friends. 

- I understand, but why this is so important. Yes, he is a bad boy. You can't stop him be who he wants. Moreover, I don't see what's the big deal. I mean he isn't the only boy on this planet. 

- Yes, but he is dangerous. Aaron picks up fights and once almost killed a boy. 

- Aren't you exaggerating the things a little bit? I mean no one normally will beat up a boy almost until death and then walk calmly around the town. 

- I have to agree with Chloe here. If he has done it, the cops should have arrested him. 

- He is not an adult. They can't do anything. 

- Actually, they can. Yes, he might not be able to go to court, but there are other things, which can make one person his age stop doing all of that. 

- All I know is that I will stay away from him. I don't want to be his next play toy. 

- Let's go to class. Soon it will start and I don't want to be late. - I said and the girls walked after me

There is no way to exist a boy as bad as Katy described him. I won't lie that I got a little bit worried about all the things, which I heard and I didn't get worried for myself. I got worried for him. There must be a reason why he is acting like that. Maybe he had an unhappy childhood. There are many people who act differently when they grow up and show no care for no one because when they were little kids, nobody showed care for them. Then they don't know how to love and what is it to have someone who cares about you and who wants to help you. I hope that he is not from them. 

After this class, I left the girls and went to the bathroom. I was in one of the cabins when I heard two girls. I was about to go out but didn't when I heard what they were talking about. Maybe it's better if I say for who. I guess that these are the most popular news in school today. 

- I heard that he is back and got even worse. - one of the girls said

- How is that possible? He is already a lost cause. I don't know how he is not in jail. 

- He can't be, because of his age. 

- I don't know how someone can be so cruel to people. 

In that moment, I felt tears in my eyes. Do they even know him? How can you talk so bad about someone when all you have heard about this person are rumors? Now I feel bad for him. Yes, I don't know him and have never met him, but if someone was talking like that about me, I don't know what I was going to do. I wonder does he know about that. 

Soon the girls walked away and I finally, walked out of the cabin. I washed my hands and went to see where the girls are. I found them in front of Kayla's locker. I walked up to them and they gave me a look. 

- Chloe, are you ok? You look a little bit pale. - Kayla said

- I'm fine. I guess that everybody will talk about the bad boy today. 

- Why are you saying it? - Katy asked me

- I heard two girls in the bathroom. 

- Is this why you got upset?

- Not exactly. I just can't understand how you can talk bad about someone when you don't even know this person. I would never do it. 

- Chloe, the whole town knows him. There is a reason why all of them talk like that about him. He is bad news. Nothing is coming if he is around. 

- But probably there is a reason, why he is doing all of this. 

- Why are you defending him? Do you have to tell us something?

- I just can't believe that there is someone so bad as everyone is saying. 

- Well, you have to believe it, because it's true.

- I can believe whatever I want and I won't believe something that I didn't see with my eyes. 

- Chloe thinks straight. There is a reason why all the people here talk so negatively about him.

- I understand that, but nowadays people believe so many things. Remember the rumor about you last year. It wasn't true, but the school still believed it. 

- Let's not talk about that. 

- I'm just saying that you shouldn't believe everything that people say. 

- I agree with you, but this boy is a lost cause. There is no way that he will change. 

- Girls, can we stop with that? I don't like when you two are arguing. - Kayla said

- I don't want her to get hurt, that's it. 

I didn't say anything else and left. Why did I think that this year would be different? People are still the same. Yes, the dumping girls are something that I will believe, but not everything that they say. First of all, I have no idea who is this boy, and second of all even if I met him one day, I will want to talk before judging him. The girls came into the classroom, but I put my backpack so they can't sit. I am not in the mood for more arguing. They didn't say anything and sat behind me. 

On our lunch break, all of us went to get some food. We sat at one table and I heard people talking about the same thing. It's getting annoying. Can't they do something else? What is so interesting to talk about someone else? I was eating my food fast so I can get out of here as soon as possible. 

- Chloe, are you ok? - Kayla asked 

- Yeah, why?

- Because you are eating fast. You do this only when there is a problem.

- I'm just annoyed, that's it. 

- And from what? - Katy asked

- You and everyone who is talking about the same thing. 

- Don't start with this again.

- The people here did it. Can't they talk about something else?

- Why do you care what they are talking about?

- I don't, but everywhere where I go, I hear his name or what he has done. 

- Relax, soon this will be over. - Kayla said

- I'm not sure. If he continues doing the same things, people will be still talking. - Katy said

With that, I got up and left. I won't sit here and listen to the same things over and over again. I walked inside and sat at one bench near the main entrance of the school. That's when I noticed two boys in front of it. I have no clue who are they, either what they are doing here. Well, they are only staying there so I don't see anything wrong with that. Moreover, they are not on our property so we can't get rid of them. 

- Hey, are you ok?

I turned around and saw Kayla. Am I ok? No, I am pissed and annoyed. 

- Look, don't mind what people are saying. Soon things will get back to normal. 

- That's what I mean. People here will never change. I hoped that this year will be better, but it's not. The same things are happening. Just this time the main character is another person. 

- I understand, but what do you want me to do?

- Nothing. By the way, who are these boys over there, and why they are here?

- I guess that you don't know. These are Aaron and his friend. 

- Who is who?

- The one who is standing up is Aaron. The other one is his friend. I think it was Daniel. 

- That is the famous bad boy Aaron? - I asked surprised

- Yes, that's him. Why?

- He looks so innocent. I mean he is just standing there, talking with his friend. He doesn't look like what people here describe him. 

- Maybe that is his plan. To be innocent so he can get some attention to himself. Look, I don't believe most of the things, which people say about him, but I won't deny that he is still a bad guy. Chloe is not only the school that is spreading these rumors. The whole town knows them. 

- I still won't believe them, until I see it with my eyes. 

- Do what you think it's right, but be careful. I don't want him to use you. - she said and gave me a hug

- I'll be careful. Probably, I won't talk with him. After all, I don't want the whole school to give me looks. 

- Yeah, there is a chance that this might happen. 

After my last class, I walked out of school and looked at the boys in front of it. How can they sit like that when people talk so many bad things about them? In their place, I was going to move out of the town or hide. They lifted their heads and looked at me. Aaron gave me a wink and I nodded my head down. I walked away, straight home. Maybe he is not as bad as people say and maybe they are just jealous of him. 

Until the end of the day, I was at home. The girls called me to go out, but I denied it. I'm not in the mood for that. Too many things happened today, which I want to forget. Well, if that's even possible. Sometimes I am too good with people, but this time I think that I should give a chance to the bad boy and let him tell me the real story. Then if it turns out to be true, I will believe what people are saying for him. Until then, I will sit quietly and not say anything about it.
